News from our Parish Community

New at Blessed Trinity in 2017

First Friday Adoration and Benediction from 8:00-11:00 a.m. will take place this Friday, February 3, and every First Friday in the Daily Mass Chapel. Mass at 11:00 a.m. will follow. During Exposition, the Blessed Sacrament is never to be left unattended. We invite your presence for some portion of the time set aside for adoration (8am to 11am). If you can commit to at least one-half hour of prayer and meditation before the Blessed Sacrament on February 3, please sign up in church on the pink sheet or call the church office during regular office hours.

Openings for Mass Intentions ~ We ask all of you to consider placing Mass intentions, as we have openings in the coming months. Please contact the church office (716-833-0301) with your request. Office hours are: 10:30am-2:30pm, Tuesday through Thursday. The Mass Stipend is $15.

Visits to the sick began this past Friday, January 27, and will continue on the last Friday of the month. Please help Father Victor by suggesting the names of those you believe need to be visited. There are sign-up sheets for this purpose near the side doors of the church, or you may call the church office, 716-833-0301.

There will be a Meet-and-Greet for those families who have signed up for religious education instruction at Blessed Trinity on Sunday, February 12 at 9:00am in St. Charles Hall. Information about our upcoming program will be provided and you will have an opportunity to meet our instructors. If you are interested in participating in this faith formation but have not yet signed up, there is still time to do so! There are sign up sheets available at the side doors of the church, or you can contact Elizabeth Clay at 716-472-0009.

Our first Bible Study session has been scheduled for Monday evening, February 20, from 7-8pm in St. Charles Hall. You are invited to join Father Victor for reflections, sharing, and discussion. If this time proves to be acceptable, Bible study will continue on the third Monday of each month. If you are interested in a deeper understanding of the Bible, please make every effort to attend. Please bring your Bible, and  feel free to invite a friend.

Stewardship ~ We thank you for your generous donations and ask that you consider increasing your weekly offerings, if at all possible.

Changes in Music Ministry ~ We sincerely appreciate the efforts of Kate Bassett, who has been our interim musician, cantor and choir director since January 1 as well as Nancy Erdman who filled in on January 29. We hope to be introducing a new Director of Music sometime in February. Please pray that our search committee is able to select the best available candidate for our congregation.

This week we welcome Patricia “Pat” Pendleton, who has replaced Barb Sercu as our parish secretary. If you have occasion to visit the rectory or call the office beginning on January 24, please be sure to introduce yourself to Pat. Office hours will continue as in the past: Tuesday-Thursday from 10:30am-2:30pm. The bulletin is printed on Thursdays, so please be sure that you submit any notices you would like included no later than Noon on Wednesday. Announcements to be read at weekend Masses are due on Thursday. Pat will also be taking care of requests for Mass intentions. News from our Parish Community

The comfort that a mother can give in early life is like
no other comfort that a child ever experiences before or after.
The attachment, the need, the sense of identification
and security  inherent in maternal contact
makes the female figure a sign and symbol
of mercy and comfort, of relief and joy….

This should be the goal of human relationships, a sharing in which needs are met with enjoyment and altruistic love of the other’s development.  It is no accident that the figure of mother has been a symbol of nurture and peace. Mother and child, the virgin and child, have appealed to more than just artists.  Mary as mother and as Our Lady of Peace and Mercy has had a primal power on believers through the ages.  We still long for our mother’s care like infants crying in the night.  Since the understanding God as mother has been suppressed in Western Christian tradition, the experience of Mary as mother has been accentuated and fulfilled the ideal and symbol of maternal mercy and love.  Mother of God she was named, and if Christ too is our mother, then she is grandmother to us all.  The great mother has always been longed for and worshiped, but in other religions she was not always benign and loving.  We are confirmed by Mary, who as a merciful mother and the handmaid of the Lord assures us that we will not be left with a deep anxiety within, or a fear of the total otherness and power beyond ourselves.  Fear of the sacred and the natural awe of God has been complemented by a final mercy and reassurance.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Sidney Callahan, The Magnificat

Nick DelBello (center front) with Christmas Eve Choir

A Farewell Message from Our Music Director, Nick DelBello ~
Dear Friends at Blessed Trinity: It has been my great joy over the last 7 years to serve as your Director of Music. In that time we have restored the church’s original Tellers-Kent organ, our choir has given concert performances both here at BT and across the diocese, we have grown our concert series, and the Buffalo Brass Choir has become BT’s ensemble-in-residence. As many of you know, Miranda and I recently welcomed a new addition to our family; our son, Vincent, born in October. I also started a new full-time position in the Williamsville Schools this past September. Wanting to spend more time with my growing family and apply myself more fully to my new full-time position in addition to pursuing some other musical opportunities led me to a difficult decision last month: to leave my position here at BT as Director of Music. Next week’s Christmas Eve and Day Masses will be my last here, and an interim director will take over on January 1st until a new, permanent director is found. I am proud of the things we have been able to accomplish and the legacy of high-quality liturgical music that we have been able to continue here at BT. I am looking forward to maintaining the Buffalo Brass Choir’s ensemble-in-residence status, and will be back at BT in February for our annual performance here. I wish to thank our talented and dedicated choir, as well as the entire congregation for their enthusiastic support of the musical ministry. A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!  Nick DelBello

Vocation View ~ Jesus, Mary and Joseph, as members of the Holy Family, always supported each other in doing God’s will, even though this was not always easy and meant letting go and trusting God. As the family of God’s children, we are to help each other in doing God’s will, which may be a vocation to priesthood or religious life. Let us not stand in the way of those whom God has called. If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Fr. Andrew Lauricella at 716-847-5535. You can also check out the “Priest of the Month” stories at www.buffalovocations.org.

News from our Parish Community

“Christmas calls a community back to its origins by remembering Jesus’ own beginnings as a human child, a prophet of God’s reign, a judgment on the world and its projects. What the parish celebrates during this season is not primarily a birthday, but the beginning of a decisive new phase in the tempestuous history of God’s hunger for human companions. The social concerns of the season are thus rooted in Jesus’ proclamation of God’s reign: the renunciation of patterns that oppress others (holding, climbing, commanding) and the formation of a new human community that voluntarily embraces those renunciations. It is an adult Christ that the community encounters during the Advent and Christmas cycles of Sundays and feasts: a Risen Lord who invites sinful people to become church. Christmas does not ask us to pretend we were back in Bethlehem, kneeling before a crib; it asks us to recognize that the wood of the crib became the wood of the cross.” ~ Nathan Mitchell

A heartfelt “Thank You” to all the volunteers who decorated the church Monday and Tuesday and helped with flower arranging on Wednesday. We appreciate your service.

Prisoner Gifts 2016 ~ Giving hope and comfort to the imprisoned. On Friday morning, Dec. 9 volunteers, directed by Coordinator Janice Burns, sorted and counted, supplied and then filled 1,130 gift bags for the women at Albion Correctional Facility. The evening crew, representing churches, schools, social agencies and friends of Sr. Karen Klimczak, bagged 1,000 gifts for the men at Wende and packed all the shipping boxes. On Tuesday Dec. 13 “Paint of WNY” donated their truck and employees to help load the boxes. Delivery to the prisons was completed that day in good weather between the snowstorms. A BIG THANK YOU is extended to all at Blessed Trinity who donated hot chocolate and books, decorated bags (200+) and helped package and ship the gifts. Special thanks to Dan Korchowsky who helped unload at the prisons and to Judy Casassa who handled arrangements with BT staff and directed recycling efforts. Thanks and appreciation to Coordinator Jan Burns for her hard work bringing this project to another successful end. Having made last minute adjustments to changing prison regulations and schedules, Jan says, “I believe it is Sr. Karen’s spirit that gets us through this each year.”
