We recognize and bless our Liturgical Committee members who have started planning for our liturgical celebrations. The committee will meet after Sunday Mass on April 2 to finalize plans for Holy Week.

Recipient of Lay Award of St. Joseph the Worker
Lay Award of St. Joseph the Worker ~ Father Victor and our parishioners join in congratulating and acknowledging Jack Curtin who was Blessed Trinity’s 2017 recipient of the Lay Award of St. Joseph the Worker. The award was conferred by Bishop Malone at a Mass at St. Joseph’s Cathedral on Saturday, March 18. We pray that God continues to bless him abundantly and we look forward to celebrating with him at the upcoming Agape Feast on April 23.
Sweet While it Lasted ~ Blessed Trinity made it to the “Stunning Sixteen” in Church Madness 2017, but Holy Trinity in Gainsville, VA — with a much larger congregation — was more successful in getting out the vote. With 1,513 votes cast in the “Trinitarian Throwdown,” the more modern house of worship scored 871 (57.6%) to our 642 (42.4%). Our cluster of Catholic Churches of Central Buffalo continues its tradition of Monday evening Lenten Journey Masses at 7pm. On March 27 we will be visiting Sister’s Hospital (2nd Floor Chapel), 2157 Main St., Buffalo. You will receive a ticket to cover the cost of your parking.
The Parish Council meeting will meet on Wednesday March 29 at 7pm in St. Charles Hall. If you are unable to attend, please notify Sr. Peggy Gallagher or the parish office.
Summary of February 15 Parish Council Meeting: Movement on sale of FLARE awaits action from NYS. Closing date of St. Gerard [sale] is not set. Planning continues for new “Welcome” sign on side lawn. Thanks to Luis Clay and dedicated volunteers for their service at the Food Pantry; more volunteers are welcome. Attendance at Mass is up recently and times for Masses will be reviewed for several months. Religious Education program has fourteen youths ranging from second grade to high school. Additional teachers are welcome. Also seeking those interested in joining an Event Planning Team to identify events/activities that will increase participation.

Stations of the Cross
Fridays at 6 PM
Stations of the Cross will take place in church at 6pm on Friday, March 31 and Friday, April 7.
The Ladies Sodality’s meeting scheduled for next Sunday, April 2, has been cancelled.
Readers and Eucharistic Ministers will meet with Father Victor on Thursday, April 6, at 7pm.
Penance Service on April 10 ~ Blessed Trinity will be the site of this year’s penance service for the CCCB parishes on Monday evening, April 10, at 7pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation as we begin the most sacred week in the Christian calendar. We hope you will plan to attend.
Agape Meal Planned for April 23 ~ The Agape or Love Feast refers to a Christian fellowship meal recalling the meals Jesus shared with disciples during his ministry and expressing the koinonia (community, sharing, fellowship) enjoyed by the family of Christ. An early evening agape meal is being planned for our parishioners on Sunday, April 23. Please save the date and watch future “This Week” posts for more information, including how you may contribute to our shared meal.
Vocation View: Fourth Sunday in Lent: There are many forms of blindness from which Jesus delivers us. Sometimes certain kinds of blindness prevent us from appreciating the purpose for which we have been created, and our unique place in God’s kingdom. Anointing of the Sick ~ Beginning on Sunday May 7, there will be anointing of the sick and well-aging immediately after Mass. Anointing will continue on the first Sunday of each month. Please feel free to remain after Mass for anointing and also inform those who are sick and would like to be anointed.

The building was originally owned by the Culliton Ice Cream Co. Change in Lenten Program due to Wednesday’s weather cancellation ~ Our Lenten Program will conclude this week on Wednesday March 22 with a second “simple supper” of pizza, a green salad, and desserts, served from 5:30-6:30pm, followed by Prayer Around the Cross in the Church at 7pm. If you signed up to bring cookies on the 15th, we’re hoping your can still accommodate us this Wednesday.

Breaking News: If you picked Blessed Trinity in Church Madness 2017, your bracket is still intact! This week we beat out the Crypt Church of the National Cathedral in Washington, DC by 514 votes in Art & Liturgy’s balloting for “Most Beautiful Catholic Church in the U.S.” Our new matchup should be made public sometime on Sunday, 3/26, and we will post a link to the new ballot as soon as it becomes available. From what we’ve seen of the remaining churches, the competition in this round will be really tough. Polls will close on Wednesday, March 29, so be sure to vote right away. We’ve made it to the Sacred Sixteen, and the Faithful Four are in our sights!
Religious Education Update ~ Our religious education classes, focusing on Liturgy and Prayer, are continuing each Sunday of March from 9-9:45am in St. Charles Hall. We will be following the Buffalo Diocesan directives for Faith Formation and parents are expected to attend class with their children. We are in desperate need of more teachers. If you are interested in helping to teach a small group of children with planned activities, please contact Elizabeth Clay at 472-0009.

Our parish Lenten program continues this Wednesday, March 15, with our second “simple supper” and continued insights into the meaning of “the Kingdom of God.” Our guest speaker will be Moses Ikuelogbon, a seminarian at Christ the King, now in his Pastoral Year at St. Benedict’s parish. Religious Education Update ~ Our religious education classes, focusing on Liturgy and Prayer, are continuing each Sunday of March from 9-9:45am in St. Charles Hall. If you have not already done so, please return your completed enrollment form to the Rectory this week. Additional forms are available at Mass if needed. We will be following the Buffalo Diocesan directives for Faith Formation and parents are expected to attend class with their children. We are in desperate need of more teachers. Our cluster of Catholic Churches of Central Buffalo continues its tradition of Monday evening Lenten Journey Masses at 7pm. On March 13 we will be visiting Ss. Columba-Brigid Church, 75 Eagle Street near Clinton.
The Parish Council meeting which would normally take place on Wednesday, March 15, has been rescheduled to Wednesday March 29 at 7pm in order to accommodate the Lenten program.

The building was originally owned by the Culliton Ice Cream Co. Local historian and preservationist, Chuck LaChiusa, has shared some marvelous photos of the mural depicting Blessed Trinity and other historical sites in the neighborhood on his web site. Rev. Peter Drilling, the Rector of St. Joseph Cathedral, opened our three-part Lenten Program on Wednesday evening, March 8. Father Drilling explored the concept of the Kingdom of God as developed in the first narrative account of Jesus life, St. Mark’s Gospel.

On May 20 and 21, Blessed Trinity will participate in the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s Seventh Annual Sacred Sites Open House Weekend, inviting the public to experience our house of worship as a repository of faith, art, and history. Members of our docent team will be on hand Saturday, May 20, from 2 – 4 p.m. and on Sunday, May 21, from Noon to 2 p.m. to explain the unique features that make Blessed Trinity Church the purest replication of 12th century Lombard-Romanesque architecture in the United States. You’ll be able to examine its handmade bricks set in a style dating back to the Middle Ages, learn about the elaborate display of medieval iconography on the terra cotta portico, and stand in awe at the more than 2,000 symbols summarizing Christian beliefs in ceramic tiles, paintings and sculpture.
Blessed Trinity, listed on the National Register of Historic Place, is wheelchair accessible.

Recitalist William Maddox
Organ Recital

William Maddox, organist and music director at Toronto’s Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, in recital on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Maddox will perform Romantic French works and orchestral transcriptions to showcase various colors of the Blessed Trinity’s original Tellers-Kent pipe organ, built in 1927.
Active as a recitalist, Mr. Maddox has been heard in recital in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Brazil, as well as on the CBC. He has also served as Instructor of Organ in the School of Music at Queen’s University at Kingston, where his students were recipients of numerous University and national scholarships and awards.
Proceeds of this recital benefit “Under This Roof,” a sustaining fund created in 2002 for the preservation and restoration of our architectural landmark and house of prayer. There is a suggested donation of $15 for this recital.

Our 2017 Parish Lenten Program begins this Wednesday, March 8. Our guest speaker will be Rev. Peter Drilling, Rector of St. Joseph’s Cathedral, former President-rector of Christ the King Seminary, and long-time friend of Blessed Trinity. The evening begins in St. Charles Hall with a simple supper of homemade macaroni and cheese and a green salad served from 5:30-6:30pm, followed by Fr. Drilling’s presentation at 7:00pm. He asks that you please bring your Bible. Our discussion centering on the “the Kingdom of God” continues on Wednesday March 15 with Seminarian Moses Ikuelogbon. Our simple supper on the 15th features pizza and a green salad, served from 5:30-6:30pm in St. Charles Hall, followed by a Deacon Ikuelogbon’s presentation at 7:00pm. Sign-up sheets are at the side doors of church for anyone who would like to offer cookies for March 8 and 15. Our three-week program will conclude on Wednesday, March 22, with Prayer Around the Cross at 7:00pm in church.

This Wednesday, March 1, is Ash Wednesday ~ Our parish Mass, including Distribution of Ashes, will take place at 6pm. There will be no 11am Mass on Ash Wednesday.

First Friday Adoration and Benediction will take place this Friday morning, March 3, from 8-11am in the Daily Mass Chapel, followed by Mass at 11:00. During Exposition, the Blessed Sacrament is never to be left unattended. Consider starting your Lenten devotions by spending at least one-half hour in prayer and meditation with Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. If possible, please commit to a specific time by using the pink sign-up sheets at the side doors, or call the church office during regular office hours.

Reader and Eucharistic Ministers Meeting with Father Victor will take place after Mass on Sunday, March 5. Anyone interested in serving in these ministries is invited to attend.
Members of the Ladies Sodality invite women of the parish to join them for tea in St. Charles Hall on Sunday, March 5, following the 10am Mass. After a very brief general membership meeting, we will be discussing your ideas for parish activities and programs in the coming months. Please bring your favorite tea cup. We’ll start our discussion with what makes it special to you.

Lofty Moves ~ We are delighted to welcome our own Elizabeth Bailey-Sands Clay as Interim Music Director. Although many of you have heard Elizabeth sing as a soloist and member of the choir, she actually began her musical career as a church organist. Despite her many responsibilities, including that of our new Religious Education Coordinator, Elizabeth has agreed to abandon her comfortable seat on the alto bench for the “hot seat” of the organ bench. Please join us in thanking her for sharing yet another of her talents with her Blessed Trinity family.

Our Landmark church building is featured on a mural created by Danial Galas on a the building located at 72 Jewett Avenue at Halbert Street. The building was originally owned by the Culliton Ice Cream Co. Local historian and preservationist, Chuck LaChiusa, has shared some marvelous photos of the mural depicting Blessed Trinity and other historical sites in the neighborhood on his web site. Annual Spaghetti Dinner & Theme Basket Auction ~ Assumption Church Hall, Sunday, March 5 from 11 am to 3 pm at 435 Amherst Street. All proceeds will benefit Our Lady of Black Rock School. Dinner and a sheet of 25 Tickets is $10 (Dinner Only is $7).
Marriage Preparation (Pre-Cana) is an important part of the journey into love and marriage. a Pre-Cana program is scheduled at St. Christopher Roman Catholic Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd., Tonawanda on Saturday, March 11 from 9am to 3pm in the school cafeteria. All couples planning to marry in 2017 are invited to participate in this small group preparation program. The schedule for the day includes presentations and activities with sponsor couples from our Marriage Ministry as well as time for questions and answers. William Maddox, organist and music director at Toronto’s Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, in recital on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Maddox will perform Romantic French works and orchestral transcriptions to showcase various colors of the Blessed Trinity’s original Tellers-Kent pipe organ, built in 1927.
Active as a recitalist, Mr. Maddox has been heard in recital in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Brazil, as well as on the CBC. He has also served as Instructor of Organ in the School of Music at Queen’s University at Kingston, where his students were recipients of numerous University and national scholarships and awards.
Proceeds of this recital benefit “Under This Roof,” a sustaining fund created in 2002 for the preservation and restoration of our architectural landmark and house of prayer. There is a suggested donation of $15 for this recital.
