On May 20 and 21, Blessed Trinity will participate in the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s Seventh Annual Sacred Sites Open House Weekend, inviting the public to experience our house of worship as a repository of faith, art, and history. Members of our docent team will be on hand Saturday, May 20, from 2 – 4 p.m. and on Sunday, May 21, from Noon to 2 p.m. to explain the unique features that make Blessed Trinity Church the purest replication of 12th century Lombard-Romanesque architecture in the United States. You’ll be able to examine its handmade bricks set in a style dating back to the Middle Ages, learn about the elaborate display of medieval iconography on the terra cotta portico, and stand in awe at the more than 2,000 symbols summarizing Christian beliefs in ceramic tiles, paintings and sculpture.
Blessed Trinity, listed on the National Register of Historic Place, is wheelchair accessible.

The Parish Council will meet on Wednesday, February 15 at 7pm in St. Charles Hall.

Elizabeth Clay
Lofty Moves ~ This Sunday, February 12, we are delighted to welcome our own Elizabeth Bailey-Sands Clay as Interim Music Director. Although many of you have heard Elizabeth sing as a soloist and member of the choir, she actually began her musical career as a church organist. Despite her many responsibilities, including that of our new Religious Education Coordinator, Elizabeth has agreed to abandon her comfortable seat on the alto bench for the “hot seat” of the organ bench. Please join us in thanking her for sharing yet another of her talents with her Blessed Trinity family.
Bible Study ~ In response to a suggestion made at our November parish meeting, a Bible Study program will begin on Monday evening, February 20, from 7-8pm in St. Charles Hall. You are invited to join Father Victor for reflections, sharing, and discussion. If there is continuing interest, Bible study will continue on the third Monday of each month. Please make every effort to attend and increase your understanding of the Bible. Participants are asked to bring a Bible and a friend.
Visits to the sick will continue on the last Friday of the month, February 24. Please help Father Victor prepare for his February 24 visitations by suggesting the names of those you believe need to be visited. There are sign-up sheets for this purpose near the side doors of the church, or you may call the church office, 716-833-0301.
Openings for Mass Intentions ~ Thank you to all who have recently placed Mass intentions. We continue to have openings in the coming months. Please contact the church office (716-833-0301) with your request. Office hours are: 10:30am-2:30pm, Tuesday through Thursday. The Mass Stipend is $15.

We are grateful to Wegmans, Dash Markets, and Traders Joe’s for their donations. We also thank Jill Hennig and Bill Warren of Aurora Liquor in East Aurora for assisting us with the Basket of Cheer. Prayer Partner Information ~ Lent is almost upon us. Please sign-up for the CCCB Prayer Partner Program. If you haven’t participated yet, we hope you will try this year. During the Lenten season you will be given a name of someone from within the participating parishes to pray for during Lent. Why do we do this? As Jesus told us, “if two or more agree on earth about anything for which they pray, it shall be granted to them by my Father” (Matthew 18:19, 20). Each partner begins to pray for the other’s needs, concerns or special intentions. How do I do it? It can be a simple prayer of remembrance for your prayer partner’s needs or a prayer intention at Mass or when reciting a decade of the rosary. You may wish to introduce yourselves and exchange intentions with one another, but that is not required. It is up to the individual and how the Spirit leads them. Our shut-ins are also welcome to add their name to the sign-up sheet by telling the home visitor or calling the parish office to add their name. So look for the lavender sign-up sheet at your weekend Mass on Saturday or Sunday in February. Direct your questions to Sr. Maureen at 716-897-9948, ext.114 or 716-892-2471.

Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, February 11.
The painting on the wall behind the Altar of the Blessed Virgin to the left of the Sanctuary at Blessed Trinity is of the Virgin Mary “seen fulfilling the prophecy of Genesis (3:15), with the serpent under her feet.” The figure to the left of Mary is “St. Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879), to whom Our Lady appeared at Lourdes, France in 1858…. The message of Lourdes was really an invitation to trust in the power of prayer regardless of how desperate the situation is, to have great concern for the sick, and to sincerely trust in the concern of Mary for the followers of her son.”
(Rev. Walter Kern’s Guidebook to Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic Church, p. 44).

Summary of January 18 Parish Council Meeting: Mr. Dick provided background information not included in the Buffalo News article (1/18/17) about the sale of St. Gerard Church. Although Blessed Trinity will receive $120,000, the parish has had to pay many large bills for St. Gerard, thus reducing significantly the amount to be received. The new boiler is installed [in St. Charles Hall]. Shut-ins were very grateful for Christmas gifts and wishes from parishioners. Work is proceeding on a new aluminum composite sign for the church to be installed on the ramp side. The CCCB (Catholic Churches of Central Buffalo) is planning Lenten experiences. The Nov. 30 parish meeting was encouraging—good attendance and participation. Father Victor thanks everyone who is volunteering and hopes that more will become engaged in parish activities.

Deacon Jimmie Boyd ~ On Sunday, October 16, the parish honored the memory of Deacon Jimmie Boyd with the placing of his name on our memorial plaque. The plaque was presented to the parish in the early 1990s by our Holy Name Society and lists the names and tenure of all pastors and associates who have served our parish. Members of the Boyd family attended both the liturgy and the social which followed the service. Click HERE for additional photos.
October 23 is World Mission Sunday. In announcing his decision to declare a Holy Year of Mercy, Pope Francis said, “Dear brothers and sisters, I have often thought about how the Church might make clear its mission of being a witness to mercy.” Supporting the young churches throughout the world with your prayers and generous gifts is indeed a merciful witness of this mission. The collection today will help missionaries offer the poor of these areas practical help as they share the mercy of God. It will ensure the development of local dioceses, and support the work of priests, religious and lay leaders who serve those on the margins and in most need. Extend your merciful witness to the whole world through your gift in the special collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.
The Ladies Sodality will hold its annual Service of Remembrance for deceased members, including Catherine Floyd and Catherine Dial, on Sunday, November 6, immediately following Mass. The service will be preceded by a brief business meeting.
Our Annual Watch for Watches Campaign to assist the St. Vincent de Paul Society began on October 1 and will continue through the month of October. Your watch doesn’t have to have a strap or be in working order. Watches are repaired and sold to further the work of the Society which is to help the poor. Last year we collected 104 watches. The Watch for Watches box will be near the statue of St. Joseph. Thanks to all who have contributed thus far. For further information see Marianne Pernick.
Prisoner Gift Project 2016 ~ Blessed Trinity will again participate in this work of mercy and forgiveness begun by Sr. Karen Klimczak, SSJ, and now continued by the Peaceprints Prison Ministries. We are asked to donate instant hot cocoa packets to fill 2,100 gift bags for inmates at the Albion and Wende Correctional Facilities. You can participate and honor Sr. Karen’s memory when you:
- Donate instant hot chocolate packets – Our goal is 4,200 packets by December 4!
- Make a monetary donation – Cash or checks (make out to “Peaceprints of WNY”) in an envelope marked “Prisoner Gifts” and dropped into the weekend collection basket.
- Decorate Gift Bags – Artistic talent isn’t necessary. Draw, trace, or just write season greetings or lines from carols and hymns to personalize the gift bags. For bags contact Amy Johnson HERE.
- Help assemble the gifts on Friday, December 9 here at Blessed Trinity.
