The Lenten Journey Mass this week will be celebrated at St. Lawrence Church, 1520 E. Delavan Avenue, on Monday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served following the Mass. Penance Service ~ There is an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at neighboring St. Joseph University Church, 3269 Main Street, Buffalo. Their Lenten Penance Service is Tuesday, April 8, at 7:00 p.m.
Soup Supper ~ Our final soup supper of the Lenten season is this Wednesday, April 9, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in St. Charles Hall. We will then adjourn to church for Stations of the Cross, beginning at 7:00 p.m. We will be using prayers of Pope St. John XXIII.
Spring Cleaning for Easter~ On Saturday, April 12, beginning at 10:00 a.m., we will be preparing our church for a grand celebration of Easter with a thorough spring cleaning. A group of student volunteers from Canisius College will be assisting, but parish veterans are needed to lead by example. Please plan to join us. Bring buckets, rags and rubber gloves, and plan on staying for “free lunch” following the blitz. No reservations are required; just come as you are!
Supper of Friends ~ Reservations are requested for our Holy Thursday Supper of Friends on April 17. This simple meal including prayer and reflection in a peaceful, quiet setting fill follow the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday. The gathering will end in church with an opportunity for private prayer at the Repository, beginning at 10:00 p.m. If you plan to attend the Supper of Friends but do not have a reservation form, please call the church office (833-0301) no later than Friday, April 11, with your name and the number attending.
Mark Your Calendar for Friday, May 2, when The Buffalo Brass Choir, under the direction of our own Nick DelBello, will present Viva Italia at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 345 Main St., East Aurora, at 7:30 p.m. The musical performance will repeat on Sunday, May 4, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph University Church, 3269 Main Street. The concert will feature Antiphonal works by Gabrieli, Capuzzi’s Andante and Allegro with BPO tubist, Don Harry, and Respighi’s Pines of Rome.
Buffalo Choral Arts Society at Blessed Trinity ~ The Music Committee extends its sincere appreciation to Marcia Giambrone and the members of the Buffalo Choral Arts Society for their magnificent performance on Sunday, March 30, as part of our Trinity Concert Series. The approximately 350 in attendance were treated to a wonderful mix of sacred and secular music performed by the 100-plus-member community chorus, accompanied by their very talented pianist, John F. Mitton. There is one concert remaining in the 2013-14 season. Featuring the Colored Musicians Club, it will take place in the church on Sunday, June 1, at 3:00 p.m.

The New York Landmarks Conservancy created its Sacred Sites Open House Weekend to showcase the art, architecture and history of New York’s houses of worship. This is one of two scheduled open house weekends each year when you can enjoy docent-guided tours of Blessed Trinity and photograph our art and architecture to your heart’s content. Save the date, and join us for this year’s open house on Saturday, May 17 from 2 – 4 p.m. and Sunday, May 18, from Noon – 2 p.m. In keeping with the theme established by the Conservancy, this year’s event will include information about the immigration and migration histories and contributions of our faith community.

The Colored Musicians Club “Swingin’ in the Aisles”
After too long an absence, the talented musicians from The Colored Musicians Club return with their exciting mix of jazz, blues, gospel and swing tunes. Charles Reedy and Friends will have your foot stompin’, your body swayin’ and your voice singin’ along with the horns, saxes, clarinets and basses of these masters of cool sounds. Proceeds from the performance will be used to fund restoration efforts at two historic Buffalo Landmark sites — Blessed Trinity Church and the Colored Musicians Club, part of the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor. Suggested donation: $10.00

Buffalo Choral Arts Society in Concert at Blessed Trinity ~ As part of the Trinity Concert Series, the Buffalo Choral Arts Society will be performing at Blessed Trinity on Sunday, March 30. Please join us and experience the 100-plus-member community chorus, voted Best Vocal Ensemble for the past two years in the Artvoice “Best of Buffalo” contest, and special guests soprano Karen Saxon and pianist Michelle Thomas. Ms. Saxon is a music educator at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts and frequent soprano soloist with the BPO, and Ms. Thomas has brought music to the local community as a pianist, organist and music educator for more than fifty years. Lenten Journey Mass Comes to Blessed Trinity ~ We will be hosting this week’s Lenten Journey Mass on Monday, March 31. It will also be the second of three special Lenten Journey Days at which Richard Lane, a Catholic Lay Evangelist, will speak. Monday’s topic is “A Believing Faith.” On Sunday evening, March 30, Mr. Lane will speak at St. Martin de Porres Church on “Deepening Faith,” and his topic on Tuesday, April 1, at Ss. Columba-Brigid is “Proclaiming the Faith.” Services on all three evenings begin at 6:30 p.m. Following Monday’s Liturgy at Blessed Trinity, refreshments will be served at a social in St. Charles Hall. Now, due to the large Saturday Bonus Ball Jackpot and the corresponding increase in attendance, we have expanded our Saturday seating capacity by opening an additional room downstairs. It, too, is equipped with a television monitor so that downstairs bingo patrons will enjoy all the amenities that exist in the larger hall upstairs.
Heart at work: Serving our neighbors in Jesus’ name ~ Kelly works as a therapist for the Multisystemic Therapy Program, which helps families get back on track by using their strengths to address multiple factors related to juvenile delinquency. Lenten Suppers ~ Severe winter weather on Wednesday caused a cancellation of our first Lenten Program. However, we’ll try again this Wednesday, March 19, with a Simple Supper from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in St. Charles Hall. Buffalo Choral Arts Society in Concert at Blessed Trinity ~ Tickets are now available for the March 30 performance of I Will Sing With the Spirit by the Buffalo Choral Arts Society and guest artists, soprano Karen Saxon and pianist Michelle Thomas. You may obtain a ticket for a donation of $10 by stopping at the rectory or leaving a message for Mickey Dick HERE. Tickets will also be available at the door. The 100-plus-member community chorus has been voted Best Vocal Ensemble for the past two years in the Artvoice “Best of Buffalo” contest. Ms. Saxon is a music educator at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts and frequent soprano soloist with the BPO, and Ms. Thomas has brought music to the local community as a pianist, organist and music educator for more than fifty years. Single parents and women with low income will be given preference. The program is sponsored by the Women’s Respite Program, with support from the WNY Affiliate of Susan G. Soprano soloist Karen Saxon joins the BCAS at Blessed Trinity on March 30, 2014.
We are pleased to welcome the Buffalo Choral Arts Society under the direction of Marcia A. Giambrone, and special guest artists, soprano Karen Saxon and pianist Michelle Thomas. The program offers an eclectic mix of sacred and secular works befitting the Spring/Lenten Season. Selections include compositions from classical sacred choral literature, spirituals, and poems set to music. Works by John Rutter, Gabrielle Faure, John Ness Beck, Ludwig van Beethoven, Ola Gjeilo, Moses Hogan, Andre Thomas and others will be performed.

The Colored Musicians Club “Swingin’ in the Aisles”
After too long an absence, musicians from The Colored Musicians Club, directed by George Scott, return with their exciting mix of jazz, blues, gospel and swing. Funds from the concert will be used to restore two historic Buffalo Landmark sites — Blessed Trinity Church and the Colored Musicians Club, part of the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor.

The New York Landmarks Conservancy created its Sacred Sites Open House Weekend to showcase the art, architecture and history of New York’s houses of worship. This is one of two scheduled open house weekends each year when you can enjoy docent-guided tours of Blessed Trinity and photograph our art and architecture to your heart’s content. Save the date, and join us for this year’s open house on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18. In keeping with the theme established by the Conservancy, this year’s event will include information about the immigration and migration histories and contributions of our faith community.

St. Joseph’s Day Table ~ The Sisters of St. Joseph will be hosting a St. Joseph’s Day Table on Sunday, March 9 at Our Lady of Peace Church, 10950 Main Street, Clarence from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. There is no charge for the dinner. Donations received will go to St. Aloysius Gonzaga Pantry, Ss. Brigid –Columba Pantry, and Clarence Presbyterian Church Food Pantry. All are invited.
Annual Novena of Grace in Honor of St. Francis Xavier will be prayed from March 4 – 12 in services at St. Michael’s Church, 651 Washington Street, in downtown Buffalo.
