Diocesan Celebration at Blessed Trinity Church
Sunday, January 18, 2015 at 10:30 a.m.
On Sunday, January 18, 2015, members of the Catholic Churches of Central Buffalo Vicariate and guests joined in the celebration of the annual Diocesan Mass commemorating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Rebuilding the Bridge: Answering God’s Call” was the theme of the celebration at Blessed Trinity Church, with Principal Celebrant Bishop Richard Malone and Guest Homilist Rev. Brother Henry Fulmer, OFM, from St. Joseph Church in the Diocese of Charleston, SC. Members of the choirs of Blessed Trinity, Ss. Columba-Bridget and St. Martin de Porres parishes led the congregation in song. Members of the Buffalo Brass Choir, directed by Blessed Trinity’s Music Director, Nick DelBello, provided additional musical accompaniment.
An offertory collection at the Mass will be used to fund the 2016 Martin Luther King Scholarship Fund, as will proceeds from a basket raffle at the reception following the Mass. The Fund was established by the African American Commission of the Buffalo Diocese to award scholarships to students of color attending Catholic schools.

Blessing of a Home ~ We bless our homes today, knowing that God reveals himself in the daily experiences of our lives. To bless your home, gather the household together and pray the prayer on the front page of the bulletin insert for the Epiphany.
“Creator of the stars of night, who told your prophet, Isaiah, of a time when the light would come, when nations would walk by your light and kings by your shining radiance. You made it so, God of the Ages, and still we love those words. We bask in the light of your newborn Son, and like the kings we come to do him homage. Open us to this holy moment, we pray. Help us to be worthy gifts, and to give ourselves generously to the world you love. We ask this through the same Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one god, for ever and ever. Amen.”
With chalk, write above the door: 20 + C + M + B + 15, representing the new year and the legendary names of the Magi: Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar. Conclude with a favorite Christmas Carol. (Blessed chalk is available near manger scene in Church).

Thank You for Your Support ~ “We can certainly call you friends because of the way you care for our retired members,” writes a religious brother. Your gift to last week’s collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious benefits some 35,000 senior sisters, brothers, and religious order priests. May God bless you for your generosity!
The Christmas Prison Package Project ~ A sincere BIG THANK YOU to our parishioners for: Your generous donation of hot chocolate — we exceeded our goal with 4,300 packets collected; your time and talent spent decorating the white gift bags — 200 bags were taken home and into classrooms for decoration; your donation of over 1,000 soft cover books which, when added to donations from other sources, allowed us to include two books in each of the 2,100 gift bags; your time and effort on Friday, December 12; you unpacked and counted supplies and then joined the assembly line to fill bags and pack them into boxes. We acknowledge and thank Janice Burns, project coordinator, for her successful supervision of this project. Jan, with help from the men of Bissonette House, delivered the gifts to Wende and Albion Correctional Facilities on Wednesday and Thursday, December 17 and 18. That’s just what our musical mixologist, Nick DelBello, and his colleague, Peter Gonciarz, had in mind when they concocted Christmas Re-Gifted. The combined choirs of Blessed Trinity and Our Lady of Pompeii, conducted and accompanied by Messers. DelBello and Gonciarz, invite you to share a post-holiday concert featuring some of the choral favorites they worked so hard to perfect for Christmas. And in the spirit of the gift that keeps on giving, there will be two opportunities for you to enjoy this musical finale: Sunday, January 11, here at Blessed Trinity Church, and again on Friday, January 16, at Our Lady of Pompeii Church.
Blessed Trinity, located at 317 Leroy Avenue in Buffalo, is wheelchair accessible with secured off-street parking. Our Lady of Pompeii is located at 158 Lavarack Avenue in Lancaster.
