Outdoor Marian Shrine: a work in progress

Work continues on the Mary Shrine on the west side of the church.

The grotto area surrounding the statue of Mary in front of the church rectory was built in 1949. Originally designed as a shrine to Our Lady of Fatima, it once included kneeling concrete statues of the children of Fatima which deteriorated and broke over the years and were eventually removed. Then, in 2009, the original concrete statue of Mary was replaced with a marble statue of the Immaculate Conception from the merged congregation of St. Gerard. The garden and landscaping surrounding the statue have suffered from neglect but now, in this one hundredth Anniversary year of Mary’s apparitions at Fatima, a donation from the Ladies Sodality of Blessed Trinity is funding a beautification project of our Marian shrine. Work began in May 2017 when a gardening volunteer from the meet-up group, Buffalo Underground, spent several hours removing vegetation that had taken over the grotto garden. In June, dead and dying trees surrounding the statue were removed, and in July the garden was weeded, replanted, and mulched by parishioners. Additional landscaping is under consideration for the fall. Click HERE to view photos of the work in progress.

Care for Creation Corner ~ As Pope Francis reminds us, “Nature cannot be regarded as something separate from ourselves or as a mere setting in which we live. We are part of nature, included in it and thus in constant interaction with it.” The Earth is in crisis. We need to embrace behaviors that reflect our concern, such as…during the summer months, close your curtains to block heat from the sun. This simple step can significantly reduce the need for air conditioning.

St. Paul reminds us in his letter to the Romans of many comforting words. During times of loss, loneliness and grief, we may not feel or recognize God’s presence in our lives. Though we can’t imagine all the thoughts and feelings you are experiencing right now, we do understand a bit about grieving and that, first of all, it is a process. Request a free bereavement packet of materials designed to provide support, especially during the initial stages of grief. For a bereavement packet, call 716-847-2210 or email familylife [at] buffalodicese [dot] org.

Are you or is someone you know an out of work job seeker? Facing the challenge of being unemployed and working through this tough economy is hard enough. Request a free packet containing practical resources, prayers, scripture support, and programs designed to support you on your journey. Just call us at 716-847-2210 or email familylife [at] buffalodiocese [dot] org.

Spiritual Booster Shot ~ Feeling sad, down, discouraged, “blue?” Looking for healthy, wholesome alternatives to cope? Reach out now. Inner healing and hope are a phone call or email away. For your free packet of practical easy to use resources to provide you with tried and true antidotes or for more information, contact the Office of Family Life Ministries at 847-2210 or email familylife [at] buffalodiocese [dot] org.

Vocation View ~ Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time: There are many things that claim our focus and energy, but God must be our highest priority. What is the voice of God saying to you? If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Fr. Andrew Lauricella at 716-847-5535. You can also check out the “Priest of the Month” stories on our website www.buffalovocations.org.

Congratulations to all our graduates! As you move to the next chapter of your journey — from grade school, high school, college — we wish you continued success along with experiences and challenges that will enrich you and prepare you for the future.

Facing the challenge of being unemployed and working through this tough economy is tough enough. Request a free packet containing practical resources, prayers, scripture support, and programs designed to support you on your journey. Just call us at 716-847-2210 or email familylife [at] buffalodiocese [dot] org.

Openings for Mass Intentions ~ Thank you to all who have recently placed Mass intentions. Please contact the church office (716-833-0301) with your requests. Office hours are: 10:30am-2:30pm, Tuesday through Thursday. The Mass Stipend is $15.

We thank you for all your generous donations and ask that you consider increasing your weekly offerings, if at all possible.

St. Peter and St. Paul, Apostles
June 29
“The portrait heads, which appear between the arches [of the church], give some historical proof of the Church’s faithfulness to her mission. These ‘portraits’ are of the great apostles, saints, and teachers of the faith.” (Rev. Walter Kern’s Guidebook to Blessed Trinity R. C. Church, page 22). The portrait heads of St. Peter (shown here) and St. Paul are above the church narthex and best viewed from the choir loft.

Volunteer with monthly “Journey Into Love” monthly diocesan marriage preparation program. The Office of Family Life Ministries is looking for married couples to help by giving a 20 minute talk once or twice a year on essential topics and issues that engaged and newly married couples face. Married couples that support this ministry find it beneficial to their own marriage and their efforts contribute to the strengthening of family life as couples prepare for their marriage. Our Altar of Sacrifice contains a relic of St. Irenaeus, a martyr, whose feast day is celebrated on June 28. Born in Asia Minor, he studied in Rome and went to Lyons as a missionary priest and was eventually named bishop. Through his writings, we know he was a disciple of St. Polycarp, who was himself a disciple of St. John the Evangelist. Thus Irenaeus was in the direct line of the disciples. Trinity Festival Weekend, June 9-11, 2017

Father Victor preaches to congregation on Trinity Sunday

William Maddox at the Tellers-Kent Organ
June 9, 2017

Our Trinity Festival Weekenda three-day celebration of our parish feast day – has concluded with excellent reviews and relieved committee chairs. On Friday evening, more than 100 enjoyed William Maddox, the acclaimed organist and music director at Toronto’s Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, in recital on the church’s 1927 Tellers-Kent organ. Their appreciation of his performance was enhanced by Gary Kelley’s camera work in the loft, enabling audience members to view Mr. Maddox’s manual dexterity and fancy footwork on a movie screen in the sanctuary. The post-recital reception provided everyone an opportunity to visit with Mr. Maddox. Saturday’s church tours attracted a steady flow of visitors, much to the delight of docents and greeters. Rev. Victor Ibhawa celebrated Sunday’s Mass in honor of the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity, with individual members of the assembly presenting the Prayer of the Faithful intercessions. Musical anthems included Michael Bedford’s “Prayer to the Trinity,” sung by the parish choir. More than 80 of those in attendance at the Mass stayed to enjoy a parish brunch.
Many heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who volunteered in making the celebration of our parish feast day so memorable, especially the people who were here all three days helping with whatever needed to be done. We know that Friday’s recital, Saturday’s church tours, and Sunday’s Liturgy each attracted people who were visiting our church and experiencing our hospitality for the first time. We thank each of you who introduced someone to our parish and welcomed guests at our fellowship events. Let us each make this a habit going forward to Trinity Sunday 2018.
