St. Peter and St. Paul, Apostles
June 29
“The portrait heads, which appear between the arches [of the church], give some historical proof of the Church’s faithfulness to her mission. These ‘portraits’ are of the great apostles, saints, and teachers of the faith.” (Rev. Walter Kern’s Guidebook to Blessed Trinity R. C. Church, page 22). The portrait heads of St. Peter (shown here) and St. Paul are above the church narthex and best viewed from the choir loft.

News from our Parish Community

A Request from the Parish Council ~ August is traditionally the month when a slate of candidates for election to the Parish Council is announced. The Council Bylaws provide for the election of four (4) new members each year on the second Sunday of September (9/10/17), with new members being welcomed at the September Council meeting (9/20/17). A nominating committee consisting of Father Victor, Vice President Mickey Dick (chair), Darvan Draper, Dan Korchowsky and Palma Zanghi was appointed at the June 21 Council meeting and charged with assembling a slate of candidates. They will be contacting parishioners over the summer. You may also place your own name in nomination or nominate another. If you wish to nominate someone else, please check first to be sure the person is willing to serve. Any registered member of the parish who is at least 18 years of age is eligible. It is very important that all candidates take time to learn what is expected of council members.  To nominate yourself or another, or to obtain more information about serving on the parish council, please contact any of the committee members listed above or call the church office and request that someone contact you. A bulletin insert for the weekend of June 24/25 includes a form for nominations. It will be available in church through August 13.

Vocation View ~ Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time:  A many people as there may be, God loves each of us individually. Not even a hair on our head goes unnoticed. We each have a purpose! What is yours? If God is calling you to a Church vocation, call Fr. Andrew Lauricella at 716-847-5535. You can also check out the “Priest of the Month” stories on our website www.buffalovocations.org.

Trinity Festival Weekend – Many heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who volunteered in making the celebration of our parish feast day so memorable, especially the people who were here all three days helping with whatever needed to be done. We know that Friday’s recital, Saturday’s church tours, and Sunday’s Liturgy each attracted people who were visiting our church and experiencing our hospitality for the first time. We thank each of you who introduced someone to our parish and welcomed guests at our fellowship events. Let us each make this a habit going forward to Trinity Sunday 2018.

Congratulations to Jonathan Sands who earned First Honors during the fourth quarter honor roll at Canisius High School this month.

Congratulations to all our graduates! As you move to the next chapter of your journey — from grade school, high school, college — we wish you continued success along with experiences and challenges that will enrich you and prepare you for the future.

Volunteer with monthly “Journey Into Love” monthly diocesan marriage preparation program. The Office of Family Life Ministries is looking for married couples to help by giving a 20 minute talk once or twice a year on essential topics and issues that engaged and newly married couples face. Married couples that support this ministry find it beneficial to their own marriage and their efforts contribute to the strengthening of family life as couples prepare for their marriage. If you are interested in finding out more about this very successful diocesan marriage program, call the Family Life Office at 716-847-2210.

Our Altar of Sacrifice contains a relic of St. Irenaeus, a martyr, whose feast day is celebrated on June 28. Born in Asia Minor, he studied in Rome and went to Lyons as a missionary priest and was eventually named bishop. Through his writings, we know he was a disciple of St. Polycarp, who was himself a disciple of St. John the Evangelist. Thus Irenaeus was in the direct line of the disciples.
