Today is the last day of Doors Open Niagara.
Don’t miss this opportunity to “discover the story behind every door.”
Blessed Trinity Hosts Doors Open Niagara
Saturday, October 19 ~ 12 Noon – 4:00 p.m.
Sunday, October 20 ~ 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

This interior photo of Blessed Trinity by Ray Ordinario of Ft. Erie, Ontario was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2008 Doors Open Photography Contest. Dr, Ordinario generously donated a framed copy of his photo to Blessed Trinity to be used at a fundraiser for the church’s
“Under This Roof” restoration fund.
Blessed Trinity is once again a featured site for the bi-national tourism event, Doors Open Niagara. The church, which was built between 1923 and 1928, is recognized as an “extraordinary re-creation” of 12th century Lombard Romanesque-style architecture.
It will be open for free guided tours on Saturday, October 19, from Noon – 4 p.m. and on Sunday, October 20, from 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Docents will be on hand to describe the church’s architectural features and interpret its artworks and selected iconography. There will also be informational handouts, a historical display area, and sales table. Visitors are encouraged to bring binoculars and cameras.
Sponsored by The Binational Tourism Alliance, the 11th Doors Open Niagara event has as its theme, “Twentieth Century Neighborhoods,” and showcases “buildings that were erected in the late 1800s and early 1900s that resulted in the historical neighborhoods we continue to recognize today.”
The first Doors Open Day took place in France in 1984. Since this program was launched in 2002, nearly 5 million visits have been made to participating heritage sites. To learn about other 2013 Western New York sites, Click HERE.
Doors Open always has always included a photography contest, and Blessed Trinity has been a favorite subject with contest participants. This year’s entries must be digital, and you can find complete contest details by Clicking HERE.
Blessed Trinity’s open house hours have been conveniently scheduled before and after our weekend services. Please consider joining us for worship at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday or 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.
Aug 21, 2013 | Alumni News & Photos

Our Annual Alumni Mass will be held at Blessed Trinity Church on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at 10 AM. We look forward to welcoming all alumni, especially the graduates of 1943, 1953, 1963 and 1973 who will celebrate significant anniversaries. We encourage those graduates to contact their classmates and take advantage of the occasion to arrange individual class reunions. A reception in St. Charles Hall following the Mass provides an ideal opportunity to reminisce and renew acquaintances. Please consider bringing a food item to share.
As part of our annual Mass, we pause to remember all deceased alumni and faculty, and the names of graduates who have passed away since last year’s Mass will be read. We will be remembering Norine Kurtz Randle and Robert F. Harrer, ‘37; Bernice Stengel Burgasser, ’41; Richard J. Dentinger, ’44; John E. “Jack” Lester, ‘54; James J. Loesch, ’55; and Josephine Chilelli Drescher, ’57. May they rest in peace. Please inform the committee if you are aware of other recent alumni deaths by leaving a message HERE, and their names will be added to the prayer intentions on that day.
New this year: We will offer a tour of the church before Mass. In April, Blessed Trinity’s building heritage committee trained a new class of docents, including several who are alumni of our school. Volunteers from the Classes of 1975, 1956 and 1951 have done their homework, and will be available to offer insights on the architectural features, symbolism and artworks of our landmark church. To participate, please assemble in front of church by 9:20 a.m. so that we can begin promptly at 9:30. (If it’s raining, we’ll meet in the front vestibule).
In conjunction with the September 22, 2013 alumni gathering, we are sponsoring our Fourth BT Alumni Raffle for the purpose of raising funds to help pay for restoration and repairs on our beautiful Church. Since we began our raffles in 2009 we have raised over $6,000, half of which was donated to the Church, with the remaining monies (after Alumni Committee expenses) divided among the winners (2 each year). We want to continue this tradition and, with your help, we hope to have an equally successful fundraiser. The drawing will take place at the reception following the Alumni Mass. You don’t need to be present to win, but you DO need to return your completed ticket stubs and check payable to “Blessed Trinity Alumni” no later than September 16, 2013. Tickets are $5.00 each or six (6) for $25.00. Winners will be notified by mail and included in a post on this web site and on the Blessed Trinity School Alumni Facebook page. To request raffle tickets, Click HERE and leave a message “Attention Jerry Powers.” You may also purchase tickets at the reception prior to the drawing.
One hundred thirty alumni and guests enjoyed our October 13, 2012 all-class reunion dinner, with seventy attending Sunday’s Mass and reception. (Click HERE to view photos). In lieu of a raffle, proceeds from the dinner provided a $1,000 gift to the Church’s “Under This Roof Fund.” The Alumni Committee continues to provide a time and place for you to reunite with former classmates and neighbors each year. As in the past, we encourage each of you, particularly members of the anniversary classes, to personally contact members of your graduating classes regarding alumni activities. We are willing to provide whatever contact information we have for your classmates, but our committee is just too small to do the organizing for you. To update or add your contact information, Click HERE and leave a message “Attention Bobbe Lukasik.”
We hope you will plan to join us on Sunday, September 22, 2013. If you have any questions or comments, Click HERE and leave a message “Attention Alumni Committee.”

Our dessert tent was staffed by Sister Claire Edwards, Helen Roddy-Gray, Vontrese Draper and Judy Casassa who welcomed those of you who stopped by to lend a hand and socialize.” For more photos from Summer in the City, click HERE.

Flowers for Our Lady ~ This Thursday, August 15, the Church celebrates the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Holy Day of Obligation. If you have a garden awash with summer flowers, Our Ladies Sodality invites you to honor Mary with a bouquet when you come to Mass at Noon on her feast day. We will have vases with water available at the Mary Shrine, so come a few minutes early to arrange your offering. (If you prefer, do the arranging at home and retrieve your vase at a later date). And on this feast day, take a moment to appreciate Joseph Mazur’s painting in the transept of our church (over the left side door) entitled “The Assumption of Mary into Heaven.”

Catholic League Appeal ~ A Tradition of Faith, Love and Sharing ~ Founded almost seventy years ago, we thank Almighty God for all the clergy and laity who pioneered the cause. The continuation of the League is now our mission and challenge. Help provide for a strong leadership in the Church of Poland. Your contributions are primarily used to support two seminaries where talented priests are sent for further studies to help provide strong leadership now and in the future—the Polish Pontifical Institute and the Polish Pontifical College, both in Rome. The priests return to Poland to staff Chanceries, seminaries, universities and works of charity. You would be impressed to see these zealous priests. This collection takes place the weekend of August 17-18.
Project Homeless Connect ~ Sister Claire Edwards reports that as of August 4, we have collected just over 400 deodorants for the homeless people of our community. Although he acquired fame as a writer, the founder of the Redemptorist Congregation is also remembered for his preaching and pastoral reforms. His feast is celebrated on August 1. St. Ignatius, fourth from the left (standing), was on his way to military fame before a debilitating war injury. His conversion experience began during his convalescence, and his writings during that time culminated in his greatest work, the Spiritual Exercises. Founder of the Jesuits, his feastday is July 31. Mary of Magdala
July 22
Mary of Magdala, in spite of the undeservedly tarnished reputation she held for fifteen centuries, is arguably the second most important woman in the New Testament. She is mentioned a total of fourteen times in all four accounts of the Gospel – more than most of the apostles — and modern scripture scholarship has now redeemed her reputation, embracing the earlier view of Saint Augustine who was the first to call her “the Apostle to the Apostles.” Mary is depicted in both painting and woodcarving in our church. Here, in a grouping of “Virgins and Widows” in the great dome, she appears as the first kneeling figure on the left. Photo credit: Gary Kelley.

St. Bonaventure
July 15
St. Bonaventure (1221-1274) is depicted on the right in this mural at Blessed Trinity’s side altar devoted to the Sacred Heart. The Saint is associated with devotion to the Sacred Heart, which “arose out of reverence for the Pierced Side of Christ and medieval devotion to the Five Wounds and the Heart of Jesus.” (Rev. Walter Kern’s Guidebook to Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic Church, page 28).

We’ve Conquered Cocoa! Now What ??? ~ Sister Claire Edwards, Daughter of Charity from Sisters Hospital, B. T. Parishioner, Member of the Choir and Member of Parish Council, offers us a challenge. For the past four years, Sister has been involved with Project Homeless Connect, an initiative of the WNY Alliance for the Homeless. Each year a day is set aside to provide many services to homeless people. This year on September 5 they will have the 5th Annual Project Homeless Connect Day at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. Almost 75 service providers – from barbers and hair stylists to Veteran’s Benefits and Dental Care to Social Services to Family Service, etc. – all gathered together that day volunteering services to our neighbors who are homeless. Last year they served almost 700 people. This project doesn’t solve the problem of homelessness (the Alliance is also working on this larger issue), but it does show homeless people and families that the community is aware of and cares for them, – and it exposes many volunteers and service providers to this needy group in our midst. And Now OUR Challenge: As each homeless person leaves “Connect Day,” they are given a bag of personal items, donated from a variety of sources: socks, soap, tooth brushes, toothpaste, first aid kits, shaving cream for men and hygiene products for women. One item that is needed is (are you ready?): DEODORANT. Sister Claire asks: “Could we ask our parishioners at Blessed Trinity to collect deodorant for this purpose on the weekends of July? The Parish Council responded affirmatively. So, we ask you to become a part of this effort to reach out to our needy neighbors in this very simple, basic way. We will have containers placed in church during July for your contributions. We will need deodorants for men and women. And do note: deodorants can be purchased from The Dollar Store for $1.00. Thank you for your generous cooperation!!!
