Monday Scripture Study has been postponed until June 9. Our last discussion of the prophet Amos will take place via ZOOM, beginning at 6:30. Click on ZOOM link to join. All our welcome, even if you have never attended before.
Nothing says spring like this fantastic rhododendron in bloom in the garden on the west side of the church.
Our church gardens are loving all the rain, but they are also in much need of attention. Please pray for less rain and more sunshine this week, leading up to our Gardening Day on Saturday, June 7. Bring your work gloves and favorite gardening tools to church, beginning at 9am. We will wrap up at noon with hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill. And when you’re at church, take time to admire the fantastic display of spring perennials especially the azaleas and rhododendron.
On a Win Streak – Parishioner and parish Trustee, Nancy Langer, started the week of May 11 being honored by the NativityMiguel Middle School with their Founders Award and ended it with a first place finish in the photo contest sponsored by the New York Landmarks Conservancy as part of their annual Sacred Sites Open House Weekend. Nancy’s photo of our church Sanctuary won out over photos from houses of worship across New York State, and we are featuring it in this “Week of June 1” post. We congratulate Nancy and thank everyone who took the time to vote on Facebook or Instagram.
Concert Success – The outside temps may have been chilly, but everything was warm and welcoming inside Fourteen Holy Helpers Church on Friday evening, May 30, for a collaborative concert featuring the Blessed Trinity Choir, the bell ringers from Queen of Heaven elementary school and the choir of the host church. They performed for an appreciative audience, many of whom joined the performers at a post concert reception hosted by the Ladies Sodality of Fourteen Holy Helpers.
Food Pantry in Need of Volunteers ~ The Catholic Central Helping Hands Food Pantry operates EVERY Wednesday from 9:30am – 1:30pm from our St. Charles Hall at 350 Dewey Avenue. Following the “Shopper’s Choice” model, residents of zip codes 14214 & 14215 are welcome to help themselves, according to household size, to portions of carbohydrates, grains, proteins and canned vegetables. Bread and sweets are generally available. The pantry also stocks infant care items. More volunteers are needed. To learn how you might be able to help, call (716) 800-1075 or email ccfp14215 [at] gmail [dot] com for information.
We play Bingo every Thursday in St. Charles Hall, 350 Dewey Ave. Doors open at 6:30pm, concessions open at 7:30, and games begin at 8:00pm. Please plan to join us. You can check the latest carryover figures on our Facebook page.
FAMILY PROMISE OF WNY: Feed the Hungry, Shelter the Homeless. Family Promise offers us the opportunity to perform these acts of charity in a very direct and personal manner. As a support congregation, Blessed Trinity parishioners purchase and deliver groceries to the Family Promise shelter at Ss. Columba-Brigid Parish. With a few more volunteers we could continue this corporal work of mercy at least one day a month. Working in pairs, you could anticipate your turn to occur every third month. We hope you will join us. If you want more background information go to the web site, www.fpwny.org, or contact Amy Johnson (716-836-4694).
- Family Promise is certified by NYS and can house up to six families.
- It is one of only two emergency shelters in Erie County that allow fathers and teenage sons to stay with their family.
- Families are referred by the Dept. of Social Services and receive case management in finding employment and permanent housing, security deposit assistance, day care, school transport, and follow up support upon leaving the shelter.
- In 2020, the Homeless Alliance of WNY rated Family Promise with the best success rate for moving families into permanent homes.

St. Boniface, whose feastday we celebrate on June 5, appears in the dome of our church in a painting by Buffalo-born artist Joseph Mazur. Monday Scripture Study is taking a night off on May 26 in observance of Memorial Day. We will return at 6:30pm on June 2 for a continuing discussion of the prophet Amos. All our welcome to join us at Blessed Trinity’s St. Charles Hall.
May 30 Choir Concert – Please plan to fill the pews at Fourteen Holy Helpers Church on Friday evening, May 30 at 7pm in support of the Blessed Trinity Choir. They will be performing in concert with the choir of that parish and the bell ringers from Queen of Heaven elementary school. Fourteen Holy Helpers is located at 1350 Indian Church Road in West Seneca.
Family 21 Lenten Prayer Partners enjoyed the opportunity to meet in person at a May 21st pot-luck dinner held at Ss. Columba-Brigid. The committee, which included men and women from each of our parishes, hosted an enjoyable evening including delicious food, a trivia contest and a drawing for door prizes.
Sacred Sites Open House – Blessed Trinity welcomed 27 visitors during the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s statewide Sacred Sites Open House on Saturday, May 17. They came from near and far: 23 hometown tourists representing 13 different zip codes, one from Rochester and three out-of-state visitors—including two from San Francisco! Such wonderful outreach doesn’t happen without volunteers, so kudos to Vera Andrew, Kathleen Dove, Amy Johnson and Toni Maus who served as greeters; our photographer, Nancy Langer; and Eleanor Ash, Mickey Dick, Darvan Draper, Rafael Rondon, Sr. Liz Savage, and Bonnie and Don Williams who highlighted interior artistic and architectural features. Tom Brodfuehrer and Nancy Yager deserve extra credit for battling showers and gusting winds to describe the building’s outstanding exterior features and iconography. In addition to one-on-one interaction with docents, our guests were also able to view a parish history video and another showing craftsmen performing restoration work. We thank Mary Karlis for explaining items and photos on the display table, and both Mary and Pat Dyer for providing TV “tech support.” If you would like to contribute your time and talent to our building heritage committee or help at future tourism events, please see Mickey Dick or call her at 716-832-2540.
NativityMiguel Honors Nancy Langer – Parish Trustee, Nancy M. Langer, was honored by the NativityMiguel Middle School of Buffalo at their 20th Anniversary Banquet at Salvatore’s Grand Hotel on May 14. Ms. Langer and Fr. Edward Durkin, S.J., received the school’s “first and only” Founders Award in recognition of “their extraordinary contributions to the creation and growth of NativityMiguel Middle School.” The presenter’s remarks noted that “[t]heir combined efforts have helped shape NativityMiguel into a place of academic excellence, character development, and community spirit, leaving an indelible legacy that will inspire generations to come.” Fr. James Joyce, S. J., was also honored posthumously. Our parish family joins in congratulating Ms. Langer for her years of dedication to NativityMiguel.
Architectural Tourism – Building Heritage Committee members Darvan Draper and Mickey Dick represented Blessed Trinity at Visit Buffalo Niagara’s (“VBN”) Industry Meeting on May 6th. It was all about architectural tourism as VBN premiered its latest promotional video, FLIGHT 716, featuring ten of Buffalo-Niagara’s most well-know architectural landmarks. Sacred Sites Open House – Blessed Trinity joined the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s Annual statewide Sacred Sites Open House for the fifteenth time on Saturday, May 17. In keeping with this year theme of “Building for Eternity: Religious Architecture and Artisans,” docents focused on the individuals who designed the church and the artisans and tradesmen who built it between 1923 and 1928. We were also able to utilize the church’s TV to show a video featuring area craftsmen as they performed interior and exterior restoration work on our Landmark church. Many thanks to everyone who gave up their Saturday to host this statewide tourism event. They included Vera Andrew, Kathleen Dove, Amy Johnson, Mary Karlis and Toni Maus who acted as greeters; photographer Nancy Langer; and docents Eleanor Ash, Tom Brodfuehrer, Mickey Dick, Darvan Draper, Rafael Rondon, Sr. Liz Savage, Bonnie Williams, Don Williams and Nancy Yager.

This year theme is “Building for Eternity: Religious Architecture and Artisans.” Bring your friends and come and learn about ours from our experienced docent team. Read More.
Food Pantry in Need of Volunteers ~ The Catholic Central Helping Hands Food Pantry operates EVERY Wednesday from 9:30am – 1:30pm from our St. Charles Hall at 350 Dewey Avenue. Following the “Shopper’s Choice” model, residents of zip codes 14214 & 14215 are welcome to help themselves, according to household size, to portions of carbohydrates, grains, proteins and canned vegetables. Bread and sweets are generally available. The pantry also stocks infant care items. More volunteers are needed. To learn how you might be able to help, call (716) 800-1075 or email ccfp14215 [at] gmail [dot] com for information.
We play Bingo every Thursday in St. Charles Hall, 350 Dewey Ave. Doors open at 6:30pm, concessions open at 7:30, and games begin at 8:00pm. Please plan to join us. You can check the latest carryover figures on our Facebook page.
FAMILY PROMISE OF WNY: Feed the Hungry, Shelter the Homeless. Family Promise offers us the opportunity to perform these acts of charity in a very direct and personal manner. As a support congregation, Blessed Trinity parishioners purchase and deliver groceries to the Family Promise shelter at Ss. Columba-Brigid Parish. With a few more volunteers we could continue this corporal work of mercy at least one day a month. Working in pairs, you could anticipate your turn to occur every third month. - Family Promise is certified by NYS and can house up to six families.
- It is one of only two emergency shelters in Erie County that allow fathers and teenage sons to stay with their family.
- Families are referred by the Dept. of Social Services and receive case management in finding employment and permanent housing, security deposit assistance, day care, school transport, and follow up support upon leaving the shelter.
- In 2020, the Homeless Alliance of WNY rated Family Promise with the best success rate for moving families into permanent homes.

Have I shared my email address? Make sure that we have been notified of any changes in your contact information by completing this form. Stewardship Pillar Report – On April 23, representatives of Family 21 and Family 23 held their first joint Stewardship Pillar meeting. After sharing information regarding activities taking place at each of our parishes, the body agreed that whether or not our Families are officially blended at some point, we enjoy and find value in getting to know parishioners at other parishes by attending their events. Our immediate goal is to promote and encourage such attendance with the creation of a “refrigerator worthy” calendar accessible online via a QR code and printed for distribution as an insert in parish bulletins.This calendar will be distinct from calendars currently being maintained by the parishes or by either Family. First up: a May 9 Meat Raffle at Holy Cross and a June 1 Chicken Dinner at Ss. Columba-Brigid. Our thanks to Blessed Trinity’s Stewardship representatives, Nancy Langer and Mickey Dick.
