News from our Parish Community

Happy Easter to All ~ With Jay Cormier, we wish you and pray with you:
Father, this day we celebrate the empty tomb of you Son — your ultimate promise of HOPE, of LIFE, of LOVE for humanity. May the JOY of this Easter morning give us the GRACE and COURAGE, to abandon the tombs we create for ourselves and WELCOME THE RESURRECTION into our lives; to renew and re-create our world in the light of the Risen One; to PROCLAIM in every moment of our lives THE GOSPEL OF THE EASTER CHRIST!

The decorating job isn't complete until someone vacuums the Sanctuary.

The decorating job isn’t complete until
someone vacuums the Sanctuary.

Don't take those pew decorations for granted; it takes a team.

Don’t take those pew decorations for granted;
it takes a team.

Decorating Team Kudos
~ On behalf of the entire parish community, we extend out heartfelt thanks to the volunteers who turned out at 6:30 p.m. on Good Friday to decorate our church for Easter, under the direction of Father Reger and Sister Barbara. It’s amazing to see how each person — even the ones who were there for the first time — played a part in completing the grand decorating scheme. We think you will have to agree that the results are awesome.

Camerata di Sant’ Antonio Concert ~ We’re still on an musical “high” from Palm Sunday’s performance of “Mozart Noir” by the Camerata di Sant’ Antonio Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Christopher Weber. From Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, dedicated to the memory of our former music director, Bridget Blesnuk, through the U. S. première of Samuel Coleridge Taylor’s Haytian Suite Op 51a, and Harry Burliegh’s arrangement of Sometimes I feel like a Motherless Child, we were treated to amazing symphonic music in our church’s splendid acoustic. And thanks to the commentary of conductor Chris Weber, we also came away with a new knowledge of black composers Chevalier de Saint Georges, Samuel Coleridge Taylor and Harry Burliegh, as well as an appreciation of their musical compositions. To see photos from our concert, Click HERE. You have one more opportunity to enjoy the Camerata this season. They will be performing the music of Giachino Rossini, the Italian Mozart, on Sunday, May 31, at 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1080 Main Street, Buffalo.

Final Trinity Series Concert on May 24 ~ There is just one concert remaining in our 2014-15 Trinity Series. Reflections on a Dance brings the concert season to a resounding close as our resident musical ensemble, the Buffalo Brass Choir, under the direction of Nick DelBello, performs music inspired by the dance. Their repertoire will include Brahms’ Hungarian Dances, Ginastera’s Dances from Estancia and David Sampson’s imaginative Reflections on a Dance. And here’s a tip for those of you who enjoyed the resonance of the Camerata’s string ensemble in our sanctuary: you’re going to be blown away by the Buffalo Brass Choir! Please plan to be with us on Sunday, May 24, at 3:00 p.m.

Buffalo Mass Mob IX an Unqualified Success ~ A huge THANK YOU to all the folks who worked so diligently to make Mass Mob IX at Blessed Trinity such a wonderful experience: Eucharistic ministers, lectors, choir members, greeters, ushers, cleaners (including a team from Canisius College), reception volunteers, docents, those who helped prepare printed materials, Fr. Reger, Sr. Barbara, Deacon Jimmie, the rectory staff, and all of you who treated our 600 guests to a large dose of warm hospitality. It was so nice to see a packed church! The TV cameras took it all in as well, and we look forward to seeing ourselves on PBS’s “Religion & Ethics Newsweekly” sometime later in April. Best part: we all took another step together down our Lenten journey toward Easter! The special liturgy also attracted a TV crew from our diocesan Day Break TV Productions, and a cameraman from WGRZ-TV. Click HERE to be connected to the Buffalo Mass Mob’s Facebook page and links to photos from Sunday at Blessed Trinity and a TV segment with WGRZ’s Ron Plants. We will be sure to let you know which Sunday the feature will air on the PBS Show, broadcast locally on WNED-TV (Channel 17).

Our Parishioner, Lorena James, is in the second semester of her sophomore year at Nichols School. She has been studying the Mandarin Chinese language for six years. In late March, Lorena took off for a school trip to China. Travel in China will reinforce her learning experience and provide cultural exchange. During part of her trip Lorena will live with selected Asian families. This year, Lorena has also been participating in the Confirmation program at St. Joseph University Church. She will be confirmed later in April. Our prayers and good wishes are with Lorena.

Even though their students are on a semester break, our friend Joe Van Volkenberg from Canisius College Campus Ministry still turned out a team of administration and student volunteers to help parishioners clean the church for Mass Mob IX. Joe Van Volkenberg (kneeling) is joined by his team of Canisius College volunteers in the Sanctuary of Blessed Trinity Church; left to right: Kathleen Delaney, Jonathan Christen, Jake Iannuzzelli, Mike Moeller, Joe ("AJ") Kwiatkowski, Ruth Coleman, Patty Grasso, Patrick Burke, and Dr. Terri Mangione.

Blessed Trinity welcomes the Camerata di Sant’ Antonio this Sunday, March 29, at 3 p.m. for a performance of “Mozart Noir,” under the direction of Christopher Weber. The chamber orchestra, founded in 2002, seeks to present concerts that preserve and celebrate the cultural heritage of our community. “Mozart Noir,” part of their “Mostly Mozarts” series, will feature the music of gifted Black Composers including Chevalier de Saint Georges, Samuel Coleridge Taylor, and Harry T. Burleigh. If you’ve never taken a guided tour of your church, come early (2:15-2:45 p.m.) and learn about our architecture and artwork. Following the concert, you and your guests will enjoy a reception in St. Charles Hall hosted by Amberleigh Retirement Community of Williamsville. Concert tickets, available at the door, are $17. Funding from the City of Buffalo will provide free admission for students under the age of 15 when accompanied by an adult or high school students with valid school ID.

Special Collections ~ The collection on Holy Thursday will benefit our Helping Hands Food Pantry. The collection at Good Friday’s Solemn Service will help to support Christians in the Holy Land. May we see our Lenten sacrifices reflected in these Holy Week offerings.

Decorating for Easter ~ Easter presents a very special challenge. No decorating can be done until after Friday services, and it must be finished for the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. Our goal is to complete the task, and we invite YOU to help us reach this goal. A great deal of care goes into preparing our church for the most important liturgical celebration of the year. There are all kinds of tasks to be done — something for everyone! We hope you can help us, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening, April 3. Please enter church using the door near the wheelchair ramp.

News from our Parish Community

The Parish Council will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, in St. Charles Hall.

Buffalo Mass Mob Visits Blessed Trinity on March 22 ~ This coming Sunday, March 22, we will welcome the Buffalo Mass Mob. Docents will be present before (9:15-9:45 a.m.) and immediately following the 10 a.m. Mass to describe our church’s architectural features and explain symbolism and artworks. Many thanks to all the wonderful folks who volunteered to help before, during or after Mass Mob IX. You should receive information about your assignments on March 14/15. Our congregation has a reputation for making people feel welcome when they come here, so all of you are officially “welcomers,” with a warm smile and a sincere interest in our visitors. ALSO: The Mass Mob new initiative of making available t-shirts marking the event was very successful. They sold more than the necessary 50 shirts, with all the proceeds ($675) coming to Blessed Trinity!  If you ordered a t-shirt, we expect it will be delivered to you on or about Monday, March 16 – in plenty of time for the Mass on March 22! We can have lots of bright safety green shirts throughout the Mass attendees – and later in the season as well. Thank you!!

PBS and Day Break TV to Film Mass at Blessed Trinity ~ A team from the PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) in Washington, DC will be traveling to Buffalo on March 22nd. Noelle Cwiklinski Serper, Producer of the network’s Religion & Ethics NewsWeekly, and Kim Lawton, the show’s correspondent,  will be bringing their crew to Blessed Trinity to film our Sunday Mass. They also plan to interview Mass Mob organizers and a few of those in attendance for a possible feature on their weekly show, broadcast locally by WNED-TV on Sundays at 12:30 p.m. Ms. Serper and Ms. Lawton are native Western New Yorkers, and both are looking forward to a trip that promises both business and hometown pleasure. In addition, we will also be hosting Bob Karaszewski and a TV crew from our diocesan Day Break TV Productions.

Lenten Journey Masses ~ Only two Monday Lenten Journey Masses sponsored by the Catholic Churches of Central Buffalo (“CCCB”) remain: this Monday, March 16, at St. Katharine Drexel Church, and Monday, March 23 at Blessed Trinity. Each Mass will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is followed by a social with light refreshments. It is hoped that members from all the CCCB parishes will make a special effort to participate in these last two weeks before Holy Week.

CamerataPoster

Our Trinity Concert Series continues on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 3 p.m., when we welcome the Camerata di Sant’ Antonio Chamber Orchestra presenting Mozart Noir. Founded in 2002, the Camerata – which includes members of the BPO  – seeks to present concerts that preserve and celebrate the cultural heritage of our community, featuring premier works in every performance. Mozart Noir, part of their Mostly Mozarts series, will feature the music of gifted Black Composers. The orchestra’s last appearance at Blessed Trinity was in 2012 as part of the Architecture and Music series sponsored by the NYS Council for the Arts and attracted more than 400.  For this event, funding from the City of Buffalo will provide free admission for students under the age of 15 when accompanied by an adult or high school students with valid school identification. Adult tickets are $17. In addition to the concert, we will also offer church tours from 2:15-2:45 p.m. and a post-concert reception hosted by Amberleigh Retirement Community of Williamsville. Please join us for an afternoon of pure relaxation and enjoyment.

A Reflection for This Week, contributed by parishioner Ruth Rebovich: “He does not come down from heaven each day to stay in the gold ciborium. He comes down to find another heaven he cherishes infinitely more than the first, the heaven of our souls, made in his image, living temples of the Most Blessed Trinity!”
