The Parishioners of Blessed Trinity offer prayerful condolences on the passing of Deacon Ronald Walker, who has served the central city for more than forty-five years. His Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 AM on Monday, November 17, at St. Martin de Porres Church, 555 Northampton Street. Visitation will take place at the church on Sunday, November 16, from 4-7 PM and again on Monday from 9-11 AM. You may offer online condolences by clicking HERE.
Cocoa packets & gift bags for the 2025 Christmas Prison Package Project.
Cocoa Alert! We are continuing Sr. Karen Klimczak’s Christmas Prison Project, bringing small gifts and a message of hope to the incarcerated, and we need just 1,000 more packets of instant hot chocolate. The push is on to to reach our goal before Thanksgiving weekend. Place your purchase of hot cocoa packets (no marshmallows, please) in the back pew by November 23 (Nov 30 at the latest). We still need volunteers of all ages and artistic ability to color and illustrate the white paper gift bags, also found in the back pew. Even more volunteers are needed on Friday, December 5, when we assemble our gifts of hope and peace for imprisoned men and women in our community. There will be two shifts: 10am-2pm and 6pm until completion.
Friday’s Wine Tasting was a great success, and you don’t have to take our word for it. Just ask anyone who attended. Monetary donations are still being received, so we don’t yet have a final tally on the monies raised for the new rectory boiler. Food Pantry in Need of Volunteers ~ The Catholic Central Helping Hands Food Pantry operates EVERY Wednesday from 9:30am – 1:30pm from our St. Charles Hall at 350 Dewey Avenue. Following the “Shopper’s Choice” model, residents of zip codes 14214 & 14215 are welcome to help themselves, according to household size, to portions of carbohydrates, grains, proteins and canned vegetables. Bread and sweets are generally available. The pantry also stocks infant care items. More volunteers are needed. We play Bingo every Thursday in St. Charles Hall, 350 Dewey Ave. Doors open at 6:30pm, concessions open at 7:30, and games begin at 8:00pm. Please plan to join us. You can check the latest carryover figures on our Facebook page.
FAMILY PROMISE OF WNY: Feed the Hungry, Shelter the Homeless. Family Promise offers us the opportunity to perform these acts of charity in a very direct and personal manner. As a support congregation, Blessed Trinity parishioners purchase and deliver groceries to the Family Promise shelter at Ss. Columba-Brigid Parish. With a few more volunteers we could continue this corporal work of mercy at least one day a month. Working in pairs, you could anticipate your turn to occur every third month. We hope you will join us. If you want more background information go to the web site, www.fpwny.org, or contact Amy Johnson (716-836-4694).
- Family Promise is certified by NYS and can house up to six families.
- It is one of only two emergency shelters in Erie County that allow fathers and teenage sons to stay with their family.
- Families are referred by the Dept. of Social Services and receive case management in finding employment and permanent housing, security deposit assistance, day care, school transport, and follow up support upon leaving the shelter.
- In 2020, the Homeless Alliance of WNY rated Family Promise with the best success rate for moving families into permanent homes.

Cocoa Challenge 2025 is in the home stretch. We are continuing Sr. Karen Klimczak’s Christmas Prison Project, bringing small gifts and a message of hope to the incarcerated. We are half way to our goal of 2,700 packets of instant hot chocolate, and with your help we can by finished by Thanksgiving. Your purchase of hot cocoa packets (no marshmallows, please) can be placed in the back pew by November 23. Cash donations are the most helpful for our shoppers, or you may write a check payable to “Peace Prints of WNY” and drop it in the collection basket in an envelope marked “Prisoner Gifts.” And now the push is on to find volunteers of all ages and artistic ability to color and illustrate the gift bags. You can find the requisite white paper bags in the rear pew.

As they did in the past, our parishioners provided an expansive offering of hors d’oeuvres. Local businesses provided items for the basket raffle, as did parishioners and friends. Thank you to the following businesses that supported our fundraising effort: Wegman’s on Amherst Street, Tops Market on Jefferson Avenue and Dash’s on Hertel Ave; Paula’s Donuts, Explore Buffalo, Adam’s Rib Restaurant, casemates.com, Salvatore’s Hospitality, Russells Steaks, Chops & More and Salvatore’s Grand Hotel; Family Tree Restaurant, Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site, Parkside Meadow Restaurant, Black Willow Winery, Hair Stylist Julie Casper, Share Kitchen & Bar Room, Winfield’s Pub, Elbers Landscape Service, Marble & Rye Restaurant, Raymondo’s Pizzeria, Dick & Jenny’s Restaurant, Iron Horse Vineyards, Darbie Peiffer, Hunt Real Estate; Scott Harvey Wines, and Winebow Distributors. The Ladies Sodality thanks everyone who attended their November Service of Remembrance honoring members Janeva Tabb and Patricia Hartinger who died during the past year. The annual service combines prayer and shared recollections of the deceased. They are especially grateful to Palma Zanghi, Nancy Arnold and Pat Hartinger’s granddaughter for their heartfelt remembrances and humorous anecdotes of life with Janeva and Pat.
Members of a Religious Studies Class at Canisius University and their professor, Nazar Sloboda, toured our church on November 3. In additional to architectural information, Docent Mickey Dick provided them with parish history and pointed out statuary and artistic renderings pertaining to their course outline.

The evening also includes an expansive offering of hors d’oeuvres, a basket raffle and auction. Non-alcoholic beverages and beer are included. We thank Explore Buffalo for bringing thirty-seven visitors to Blessed Trinity for our All-Hallows Eve church tour on Saturday, October 25. Special thanks to Elizabeth and Luis Clay who provided the musical entertainment; our docent team of Tom Brodfuehrer, Nancy Yager, Sr. Liz Savage and Mickey Dick who offered commentary on the church’s art and architecture; and Mary Karlis who welcomed everyone at the display table Mary Karlis.

Walter Kern’s Guidebook to Blessed Trinity R. C. Church, page 15). St. Simon is symbolized by this saw;

We thank Explore Buffalo for bringing thirty-seven visitors to Blessed Trinity for our All-Hallows Eve church tour on Saturday, October 25. Special thanks to Elizabeth and Luis Clay who provided the musical entertainment; our docent team of Tom Brodfuehrer, Nancy Yager, Sr. Liz Savage and Mickey Dick who offered commentary on the church’s art and architecture; and Mary Karlis who welcomed everyone at the display table Mary Karlis.

Following the “Shopper’s Choice” model, residents of zip codes 14214 & 14215 are welcome to help themselves, according to household size, to portions of carbohydrates, grains, proteins and canned vegetables. Bread and sweets are generally available. The pantry also stocks infant care items. More volunteers are needed. We play Bingo every Thursday in St. Charles Hall, 350 Dewey Ave. Doors open at 6:30pm, concessions open at 7:30, and games begin at 8:00pm. Please plan to join us. You can check the latest carryover figures on our Facebook page.
FAMILY PROMISE OF WNY: Feed the Hungry, Shelter the Homeless. Family Promise offers us the opportunity to perform these acts of charity in a very direct and personal manner. As a support congregation, Blessed Trinity parishioners purchase and deliver groceries to the Family Promise shelter at Ss. Columba-Brigid Parish. With a few more volunteers we could continue this corporal work of mercy at least one day a month. Working in pairs, you could anticipate your turn to occur every third month. - It is one of only two emergency shelters in Erie County that allow fathers and teenage sons to stay with their family.
- Families are referred by the Dept. of Social Services and receive case management in finding employment and permanent housing, security deposit assistance, day care, school transport, and follow up support upon leaving the shelter.
- In 2020, the Homeless Alliance of WNY rated Family Promise with the best success rate for moving families into permanent homes.

Save the Date: Friday, November 7, 2025. Our popular biennial wine tasting returns, and parishioner Bill Warren, former proprietor of Hertel-Parker Liquor, is back as our sommelier. The evening also includes an expansive offering of hors d’oeuvres, a basket raffle and auction. Non-alcoholic beverages and beer are included. Tickets are now available at the pre-sale price of $50 by calling the rectory office (716-833-0301) or Bud and Mickey Dick (716-832-2540). Thanks to Wegman’s on Amherst Street and Tops Market on Jefferson Avenue for their contributions toward food purchases for the event, a well as Paula’s Donuts, Explore Buffalo, Adam’s Rib Restaurant, and casemates.com for providing auction and raffle prizes.
Cocoa Challenge 2025. We are continuing Sr. Karen Klimczak’s Christmas Prison Project, bringing small gifts and a message of hope to the incarcerated. Your donation of instant hot chocolate (no marshmallows, please) can be placed in the back pew by November 23. Monetary donations are most welcome (checks payable to “Peace Prints of WNY”) and should be placed in an envelope marked “Prisoner Gifts” and dopped in the collection basket. We also need volunteers of all ages and artistic ability to color and illustrate the gift bags. You can find the requisite white paper bags in the rear pew.
Finance Committee members address questions at 10/15 parish meeting.
Members of the parish finance committee addressed parishioners at an October 15 meeting in St. Charles Hall. Topics included the current status of parish finances, repercussions from the diocesan bankruptcy, and ways in which parishioners might help to sustain the vision of a parish that continues to grow and thrive. Father Bob and committee members answered questions and promised to obtain additional information when needed to address inquiries.

Thank You Sister Liz Savage for your comprehensive Subs ‘n Suds lecture on the history of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, including their influence on and community involvement in WNY. The Sisters of St. Joseph taught at Blessed Trinity School from 1908-1975 and although we don’t know her name, one of the Sisters who was teaching at Blessed Trinity School at the time of the church construction posed for the painting of St. Margaret Mary at the church’s Sacred Heart Altar.

St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690)

St. Margaret Mary is depicted on the left in this painting at the Sacred Heart Altar on the right side of our church. “Christ appeared to her in 1673-75 to request efforts to spread devotion to his Sacred Heart to overcome the ‘coldness, neglect, and indifference’ of so many people to God’s message of love revealed in Christ.” (Rev. Walter Kern’s Guidebook to Blessed Trinity R. C. Church, page 28).
