Members from our family of parishes make the Stations of the Cross at Blessed Trinity on Mar. 3. At 7pm on Mar. 10, Stations will be prayed at St. Lawrence.
This week’s Lenten Journey Mass will take place at Blessed Trinity on Monday, March 6, at 7pm.
Bible Study Transitions to In-Person ~ During the Lenten season, Zoom Bible Study has been replaced with in-person Bible Study every Tuesday (except Holy Week) in St. Charles Hall, beginning at 5:45pm and lasting approximately one hour. We are reading and discussing the Gospel of John. (When you are in church, look above the statue of St. Joseph for the beginning of a biblical quotation inscribed into the wall: “In the beginning was the Word….” It is John’s summary of the Incarnation which opens Chapter 1 of his Gospel).
Holy Week ~ This year, parishes within our family will combine some Holy Week services. Members of our congregation are being asked to commemorate Holy Thursday and Good Friday with parishioners of St. Lawrence at St. Lawrence. Easter Vigil will be celebrated at Blessed Trinity, and both churches will have Easter Sunday services: 10am at Blessed Trinity and Noon at St. Lawrence.
Our Bulletin Page has a new look. We’ve been forced to change the way we post our weekly bulletin to accommodate a software change. The older bulletins now appear first and the latest version is at the end. We will try to get back to reverse chronological order but please be patient as we navigate the learning curve.

We welcomed Explore Buffalo on Sunday, February 19, as nineteen adults and two children visited the church for docent-guided tours. Many thanks to: Darvan Draper for his introductory remarks and highlights of parish history; Palma Zanghi for pointing out artistic elements and symbolism found in the Sanctuary; Tom Brodfuehrer and Nancy Yager for interpreting iconography on the church exterior; and Eleanor Ash and Rafael Rondon for highlighting art and architecture on display in the narthex, nave and transept. Visitors were also able to view historical photographs and examine a roof tile, brick and “church chunk” of terra cotta at our display table with the help of docent Geraldine Wnuk. Because of the busy Lenten schedule, no tours will be scheduled until after Easter, but mark your calendar for the weekend of May 20/21. That’s when Blessed Trinity joins the New York Landmarks Conservancy in celebrating their annual Sacred Sites Open House Weekend.
Food Pantry Returns to Shopper’s Choice ~ The Catholic Central Helping Hands Food Pantry, which operates from our St. Charles Hall at 350 Dewey Avenue, is now operating EVERY Wednesday from 9:30am – 1:30pm. Residents of 14214 & 14215 are welcome to help themselves, according to household size, to portions of carbohydrates, grains, proteins and canned vegetables. Bread and sweets generally available. Baby needs in stock also. Call (716) 800-1075 or write to ccfp14215 [at] gmail [dot] com for information.
FAMILY PROMISE OF WNY: Feed the Hungry, Shelter the Homeless. Family Promise offers us the opportunity to perform these acts of charity in a very direct and personal manner. As a support congregation, Blessed Trinity parishioners purchase and deliver groceries to the Family Promise shelter at Ss. Brigid-Columba Parish. With a few more volunteers we could continue this corporal work of mercy at least one day a month. Working in pairs, you could anticipate your turn to occur every third month. - It is one of only two emergency shelters in Erie County that allow fathers and teenage sons to stay with their family.

- In 2020, the Homeless Alliance of WNY rated Family Promise with the best success rate for moving families into permanent homes.

During the pandemic when COVID-19 Protocols prevented many from attending church services, the ability to keep in touch by telephone, mail or email took on increased importance. Because not everyone has computer access, really important information is sent in a letter. Docent Palma Zanghi welcomes “Explore Buffalo” tourists to the Sanctuary on Feb. 19.
We welcomed Explore Buffalo on Sunday, February 19, as nineteen adults and two children visited the church for docent-guided tours. Darvan Draper gave the introductory remarks and highlights of parish history before visitors separated into two groups for their rotating tour of interior and exterior. Palma Zanghi pointed out artistic elements and symbolism found in the Sanctuary, while Tom Brodfuehrer and Nancy Yager interpreted iconography on the church façade. And although one could easily spend an hour learning about the art and architecture displayed in the narthex, nave and transept, Eleanor Ash and Rafael Rondon teamed up to present a twenty minute synopsis. Visitors were also able to view historical photographs and examine a roof tile, brick and “church chunk” of terra cotta at our display table with the help of docent Geraldine Wnuk. Because of the busy Lenten schedule, there will be no tours scheduled until after Easter, but mark your calendar for the weekend of May 20/21. Jessie B. Wells
1931-2023
Jessie B. Wells ~ Please remember in your prayers parishioner Jessie B. Wells (nee Williams), who passed on January 28, 2023, at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her husband, Cortez H. Wells, and is survived by sons Jerome Williams (wife Belinda) and Michael Wells, and a large extended family. Jessie and Cortez joined our congregation in 1991.They had formerly worshipped at St. Bartholomew before its closure. She was a long-time member of the parish council, serving on its discipleship committee. Known for her entertaining skills, Jessie organized many of our parish social events. She was a Life Member of our Ladies Sodality and at the time of her death, was corresponding secretary. She also served on diocesan committees for many years, including the Martin Luther King Scholarship Committee To read more about Jessie’s life and amazing accomplishments or leave a message of condolence for her family, Click HERE.

Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes

The figure to the left of Mary in Vincent Mondo’s painting in the Lady Chapel (left side of the Sanctuary) is “St. Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879), to whom Our Lady appeared at Lourdes, France in 1858…. The message of Lourdes was really an invitation to trust in the power of prayer regardless of how desperate the situation….” (Rev. Walter Kern’s Guidebook to Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic Church, p. 44). Surely this message resonates as strongly today as it did in the mid-nineteenth century.

This ceramic medallion of St. Bartholomew (apostle, first century) originally hung in St. Bartholomew R. C. Church on Grider Street in Buffalo. It was carried in the procession that opened the Liturgy celebrating the merger of our two parishes in February 1991. It is now mounted on the wall of the transept on the right (west) side of the church.

The Presentation of the Lord
February 2
When the days were completed for their purification…they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord….” Lk. 2:22. The Presentation is also remembered in a Joyful Mystery of the Rosary of the same name, which is symbolized along with the other Joyful Mysteries in the rose window in the left transept of the church. The symbol – a ruby star – is the second symbol from the bottom on the right.

ALTHOUGH THE DIOCESE LIFTED ITS MASK MANDATE for worship in February 2022, we have reserved a section of seating for mask wearers in the center section of pews on the right side of church. For the comfort of all, please remember to wear a mask when sitting in this section.
News from our Parish Community
Bible Study on ZOOM continues on Tuesday, January 31, at 4pm. We’ll be reading and discussing Matthew, Chapter 9.
There is a change in the daily Mass schedule this week. There will be a Mass at 11am on Thursday, Feb. 2, but NO MASS on Friday, Feb. 3. Blessing of Throats in honor of St. Blaise will take place at weekend Masses.
Explore Buffalo returns to Blessed Trinity on Sunday, January 19 at 2pm. This will be our last tour until after Easter. If you or anyone you know is interested in taking the docent-guided tour, please make your reservation HERE.
Food Pantry Returns to Shopper’s Choice ~ The Catholic Central Helping Hands Food Pantry, which operates from our St. Charles Hall at 350 Dewey Avenue, is now operating EVERY Wednesday from 9:30am – 1:30pm. Residents of 14214 & 14215 are welcome to help themselves, according to household size, to portions of carbohydrates, grains, proteins and canned vegetables. Bread and sweets generally available. FAMILY PROMISE OF WNY: Feed the Hungry, Shelter the Homeless. Family Promise offers us the opportunity to perform these acts of charity in a very direct and personal manner. As a support congregation, Blessed Trinity parishioners purchase and deliver groceries to the Family Promise shelter at Ss. Brigid-Columba Parish. With a few more volunteers we could continue this corporal work of mercy at least one day a month. Working in pairs, you could anticipate your turn to occur every third month. - Family Promise is certified by NYS and can house up to six families.
- It is one of only two emergency shelters in Erie County that allow fathers and teenage sons to stay with their family.
- Families are referred by the Dept. of Social Services and receive case management in finding employment and permanent housing, security deposit assistance, day care, school transport, and follow up support upon leaving the shelter.
- In 2020, the Homeless Alliance of WNY rated Family Promise with the best success rate for moving families into permanent homes.

During the pandemic when COVID-19 Protocols prevented many from attending church services, the ability to keep in touch by telephone, mail or email took on increased importance. Because not everyone has computer access, really important information is sent in a letter. Even though you are now able to attend Mass in person, this may be a good time to ask yourself: Does the church office have my correct mailing address and phone number? Have I shared my email address? Make sure that we have been notified of any changes in your contact information by completing this form. This is also a chance to let us know if you: wish to receive the bulletin electronically via email, register as a parishioner, or request envelopes. The Presentation of the Lord

The early life of Christ is depicted in relief in six terra cotta medallions in the narthex of the church. Here we see “The Presentation,” (Luke 2:22-40) representing the Child Jesus being brought to the temple and, as “first born,” offered to the Lord.
