Explore Buffalo members enjoyed a special All-Hallows Eve tour on Sunday, October 27. Five members of our docent team shared information about the church’s art and architecture with thirty hometown tourists. Visitors had an opportunity to examine iconographic symbols associated with Halloween and utilize mirrors for a better view of the All Saints Day procession of more than 100 angels and saints in our great dome. Angel of Music Elizabeth Clay talked about the building’s acoustics and the church’s 1927 Tellers-Kent pipe organ and demonstrated both with some “spooky” musical selections. The ninety-minute tour concluded with a performance by our “Phantom of the Opera,” Luis Clay, who sang “Music of the Night.” We thank our volunteer team of Eleanor Ash, Elizabeth and Luis Clay, Mickey Dick, Mary Karlis, Rafael Rondon, Sr. Liz Savage and Nancy Yager for making this all possible.

Is it time to update your contact information? During the pandemic when COVID-19 Protocols prevented many from attending church services, the ability to keep in touch by telephone, mail or email took on increased importance. Because not everyone has computer access, really important information is sent in a letter. Even though you are now able to attend Mass in person, this may be a good time to ask yourself: Does the church office have my correct mailing address and phone number? Have I shared my email address? Make sure that we have been notified of any changes in your contact information by completing this form. This is also a chance to let us know if you: wish to receive the bulletin electronically via email, register as a parishioner, or request envelopes. You can also submit the requested information by phoning our secretary at 716-833-0301 any Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday between 10:30am and 2:30pm; sending an email to blessedtrinitychurch [at] gmail [dot] com; or using the contact feature below to submit the information. St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690) is depicted on the left in this painting at The Sacred Heart Altar on the right side of our church. “Christ appeared to her … to request efforts to spread devotion to his Sacred Heart to overcome the ‘coldness, neglect, and indifference’ of so many people to God’s message of love revealed in Christ.” (Rev. Alumni Memorial Mass
Oct 6, 2024 at 10AM
Next Sunday, October 6, is Alumni Sunday. We are happy to again welcome alumni of Blessed Trinity School for their annual Memorial Mass—their seventeenth since our 2006 parish centennial. The annual observance includes their all-class reunion in St. Charles Hall following the Mass. Please take time to personally greet people who may be sitting near you and encourage them to worship with us at other times during the year. Blessed Trinity School operated from 1909-1975, educating more than 2,300 students. From the beginning it was staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph, who were joined by lay faculty in the 1950s.
A Sonnet for St. Francis. This sonnet, entitled “Francis, Rebuild My Church,” was written by Rev. Malcolm Guite, an Anglican priest and poet. He wrote it for the feast of St. Francis of Assisi (Oct 4) and also dedicated it to Pope Francis.
‘Francis rebuild my church which, as you see
Is falling into ruin.’ From the cross
Your saviour spoke to you and speaks to us
Again through you. Undoing set you free,
Loosened the traps of trappings, cast away
The trammelling of all that costly cloth
We wind our saviour in. At break of day
He set aside his grave-clothes. Your new birth
Came like a daybreak too, naked and true
To poverty and to the gospel call,
You woke to Christ and Christ awoke in you
And set to work through all your love and skill
To make our ruin good, to bless and heal
To wake the Christ in us and make us whole.

FAMILY PROMISE OF WNY: Feed the Hungry, Shelter the Homeless. Family Promise offers us the opportunity to perform these acts of charity in a very direct and personal manner. As a support congregation, Blessed Trinity parishioners purchase and deliver groceries to the Family Promise shelter at Ss. Columba-Brigid Parish. With a few more volunteers we could continue this corporal work of mercy at least one day a month. Working in pairs, you could anticipate your turn to occur every third month. We hope you will join us. If you want more background information go to the web site, www.fpwny.org, or contact Amy Johnson (716-836-4694).
- Family Promise is certified by NYS and can house up to six families.
- It is one of only two emergency shelters in Erie County that allow fathers and teenage sons to stay with their family.
- Families are referred by the Dept. of Social Services and receive case management in finding employment and permanent housing, security deposit assistance, day care, school transport, and follow up support upon leaving the shelter.
- In 2020, the Homeless Alliance of WNY rated Family Promise with the best success rate for moving families into permanent homes.

If you choose either of the last two, please use “Contact Update” as the subject of the email or message.

St. Francis of Assisi (c. 1181-1226), whose feast we celebrate on October 4, is depicted in the dome of our church in a painting by Buffalo-born artist Joseph Mazur. He appears in a group of twelve figures identified as “Monks, Hermits, and Religious” in Rev. Walter Kern’s Guidebook to Blessed Trinity R. C. Church, p. 38.
