Prisoner Gifts 2012 ~ A big “Thank You” to all who donated food and books, who decorated bags and helped package the Prisoner Gifts. Blessed Trinity collected over 3,500 hot chocolate packets. On Friday, December 7, the morning crew, directed by Coordinator Jan Burns, sorted and counted supplies and then filled over 850 gift bags (a book, two cocoa packs, a bag of candy and a greeting/prayer card) for the women at Albion Correctional Facility. The evening volunteers, representing churches, social agencies, and friends of Sr. Karen Klimczak, bagged and packaged 1,000 gifts for the men at Wende.  As in past years the men’s gift included two books, two cocoa packs, ramen noodles, macaroni & cheese, a granola bar, candy and a greeting/prayer.  Delivery to the prisons was scheduled for December12.

Retirement Fund for Religious ~ We also thank you for donating to the Retirement Fund for Religious. A sister from Pennsylvania writes, “In our prayers, all the sisters remember in a special way the faithful of the dioceses who support the [Retirement Fund for Religious] collection. We realize that their sacrifices and generosity have made this [financial] assistance possible. May God reward them.”

A Special Request for our Helping Hands Food Pantry ~ Richard Plunkett advises that The Pantry has a critical need for volunteers with a pick-up truck who might be available a few hours each week or every other week for transport of food donations or extra food orders to the Helping Hands Food Pantry. If you can lend a hand or need further information, please contact Richard at 861-5022.

On a related note, The Helping Hands Food Pantry has been experiencing chronic shortages of cereal (store brands welcome). Their supply of cereal is usually gone by the end of the first week after the monthly food delivery from the Food Bank. They also are in need of any kind of canned vegetables, juice or canned soup, as well as flour or sugar and baking supplies. Many younger people and grandparents are asking for baby supplies, such as diapers and formula. You should also know that the food pantry now has used clothing that is clean and folded according to size for men, women, boys, girls and infants. They are in greatest need of clothing for men and infants. All clothing is donated and must be cleaned upon acceptance.

News from our Vicariate Cluster and the Wider Community

Catholic Churches of Central Buffalo Advent Retreat Evenings, “God awaits us in our stories,” continues on Monday, December 17 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Parish, 1520 East Delevan Ave. Join us in reflecting together to awaken our faith and awareness of God’s presence in our lives. Presenter, Dennis Mahaney from the Office of Parish Life, will speak on “A God-Sized Faith.” We love stories because they communicate the way nothing else can. Jesus told great stories. Life can still bring us to our knees and fill us with gratitude if we practice a few simple and prayerful steps each day. Come and learn how.

International Crèches on Display ~ Father Roy Herberger invites you to experience a display of 385 nativity sets from 55 countries. These international crèches will be shown at Ss. Columba-Brigid Church located at 75 Hickory & Eagle Sts. (one block south of Clinton). The hours are from
1 – 4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in December and on January 5 and 6. There is no charge and there is a special section for children.
