Monday’s Journey Mass, the first of our Lenten season, will be celebrated at 7pm, Monday February 19, at Ss. Columba-Brigid. The Monday Lenten Journey Mass replaces our normal 11am Mass. Our parish family’s complete schedule of Lenten Masses and devotions is available HERE. 

Bible Study Hiatus ~ Because of the many services and devotions scheduled for our family of parishes during Lent, we are suspending Tuesday’s ZOOM Bible Study. We plan to resume our discussion of Mark’s Gospel at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

“Life in the Eucharist,” our five-week Lenten Retreat, continues on Thursday, February 22, at Ss. Columba-Brigid. It begins at 6pm with a simple supper. This week’s meal will be provided by Blessed Trinity. If you missed the first week, it is not too late to participate.

Stations of the Cross ~ All are welcome to join in praying the Stations of the Cross at 7pm on Friday, February 23, at St. Martin de Porres.

Church Commemorative Ornament ~ If you’ve been been planning to purchase our church construction centennial ornament, please don’t procrastinate. Our remaining inventory is in the single digits. Shown above reflecting the ceiling of the Mary Shrine in our Landmark church, the beveled glass ornament measures 3-1/4 inches in diameter and is made in Rochester, NY. It is available for a $20 donation after weekend Masses or by calling Cathy at 716-400-7383.

The Ladies Sodality invites you to get a jump start on your summer garden. Join in on Sunday, March 3, as Master Gardener Phyllis Lobbins introduces us to winter sowing. Learn about this fun, easy way to start your seedlings outside even when it’s snowing. You can watch and learn or get your hands dirty and take home your own mini greenhouse. This weekend’s bulletin insert identifies inexpensive starter essentials. Lunch is included, so please call Toni Maus (716-860-8321) or sign-up by February 25 if you plan to attend.

Food Pantry Returns to Shopper’s Choice ~ The Catholic Central Helping Hands Food Pantry, which operates from our St. Charles Hall at 350 Dewey Avenue, is now operating EVERY Wednesday from 9:30am – 1:30pm. Residents of 14214 & 14215 are welcome to help themselves, according to household size, to portions of carbohydrates, grains, proteins and canned vegetables. Bread and sweets generally available. Baby needs in stock also. Call (716) 800-1075 or email ccfp14215 [at] gmail [dot] com for information.

We play Bingo every Thursday in St. Charles Hall, 350 Dewey Ave. Doors open at 6:30pm, concessions open at 7:30, and games begin at 8:00pm. Please plan to join us. You can check the latest carryover figures on our Facebook page.

FAMILY PROMISE OF WNY: Feed the Hungry, Shelter the Homeless. Family Promise offers us the opportunity to perform these acts of charity in a very direct and personal manner. As a support congregation, Blessed Trinity parishioners purchase and deliver groceries to the Family Promise shelter at Ss. Brigid-Columba Parish. With a few more volunteers we could continue this corporal work of mercy at least one day a month. Working in pairs, you could anticipate your turn to occur every third month. We hope you will join us. If you want more background information go to the web site, www.fpwny.org, or contact Amy Johnson (716-836-4694).

• Family Promise is certified by NYS and can house up to six families.
• It is one of only two emergency shelters in Erie County that allow fathers and teenage sons to stay with their family.
• Families are referred by the Dept. of Social Services and receive case management in finding employment and permanent housing, security deposit assistance, day care, school transport, and follow up support upon leaving the shelter.
• In 2020, the Homeless Alliance of WNY rated Family Promise with the best success rate for moving families into permanent homes.

Bible Study ~ ZOOM classes and the discussion of Mark’s Gospel continue at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Click HERE to join us on Tuesdays.

Lent begins this Wednesday, February 14. Our family of parishes is offering FIVE Masses, each including the distribution of ashes, beginning with an 11am liturgy at Blessed Trinity. Ss. Too soon to think about summer gardens? You’d be surprised! Come join Sodality members on Sunday, March 3, as Master Gardener Phyllis Lobbins introduces us to winter sowing. Start the 16-day countdown to Spring with Ms. Lobbins’ hands-on presentation in St. Charles Hall following Sunday Mass. And while you are waiting for Spring, Click HERE to enjoy some photos of her gardens taken during the East Side Garden Walk.

The figure to the left of Mary in Vincent Mondo’s painting in the Lady Chapel (left side of the Sanctuary) is “St. Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879), to whom Our Lady appeared at Lourdes, France in 1858…. The message of Lourdes was really an invitation to trust in the power of prayer regardless of how desperate the situation….” (Rev. Walter Kern’s Guidebook to Blessed Trinity Roman Catholic Church, p. 44). Surely this message resonates as strongly today as it did in the mid-nineteenth century.

Subs ‘n Suds ~ Just under fifty members of our parish family attended Dr. Dennis Castillo’s Jan. 22nd presentation on the history of the Diocese of Buffalo, an event hosted by our adult faith formation team. A former parishioner, Dr. Castillo is a Professor of Church History at St. Mary’s Seminary and University. His talk was preceded by a “Subs ‘n Suds” supper in St. Charles Hall, featuring a trivia quiz based on the history of our four parishes.
