News from our Parish Community

Saturday Mass Change – As of October 4, we are celebrating Mass at 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays in the Daily Mass Chapel (priest’s sacristy). This will allow us to cut the heating bills significantly during the winter months. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this change. The two side entrances of the church will be unlocked for easy access through the church to the Chapel.Zimmerman-Grable

Our Opening Concert ~ The Trinity Concert Series opener is this Sunday, October 5, at 3 p.m. Please join us for an Afternoon of Music and experience the vocal talents of tenor Robert Zimmerman and soprano Amy Lynn Grable as they perform some of opera’s most beloved arias, as well as operetta and musical theater highlights. You can read more about these amazing vocalists by Clicking HERE. Photos from the concert are now available on our Facebook page. Click HERE to view them.

Restoration Work ~ To see “in progress” photos of the restoration work on the church’s west side door pictured above, Click HERE and visit our Facebook page.

Congratulations to Mary Ann Kresse ~ Each year the Board of Managers of the Buffalo History Museum honors individuals for outstanding achievement and unsurpassed generosity towards our community. On Friday, October 2, Mary Ann received “The Red Jacket Award” which honors a person for “unbroken devotion to the civic progress of Western New York.” We extend our congratulations and gratitude to Mary Ann and her family for the many outstanding ways that she has made a difference in our community.

msd.wine.tasting.ww.smOctober Wine Tasting ~ Our popular Fall Wine Tasting returns on Friday, October 24, from 7 – 9 p.m. in St. Charles Hall. In addition to wines and expertise courtesy of Bill Warren and Hertel Parker Liquor, there will be delicious hors d’oeuvres, beer, desserts and non-alcoholic beverages for you to sample. Please mark your calendar, invite your friends, and plan to join us for a lovely evening. Advance sale tickets are now available for $25.00 per person ($30.00 at the door) by calling the rectory (716-833-0301) or by contacting Bud or Mickey Dick. You can leave them a message by clicking HERE. Proceeds benefit the church’s “Under This Roof Fund.”

Remember to Give Thanks ~ Did you detect the scent of Murphy’s Oil Soap when you came to church last weekend? Then remember to say a prayer of thanksgiving for the members of the Canisius College Accounting Society who chose us for their Canisius Community Day project. On Saturday, September 27, sixteen young men and women scrubbed floors, washed pews, vacuumed, swept the choir loft, and spruced up the Chapel — all in record time. Click HERE to see photos of Brandi Burgard, Paige Burkard, Kevin Caputi, Daniel Cavallari, Edward Enright, Andrew Fischer, Tegan Foley, Katie Marinelli, James McGovern, David McMaster, Andrew Milbrand, Kristine Nelson, Tyler Owen, Team Captain Ben Schurer, Michael Sipior, and Lara Wang in action. We also appreciate the efforts of parish volunteers Bud and Mickey Dick, Madonna Hartzell and Alice Davis who were there to show them the way.

And Another H-uuuu-ge Thank You to Maggie Gatson! To add to the scent of Murphy’s Oil Soap, we have the wonderfully fresh aroma of our laundered ministerial robes worn by our Readers and Eucharistic Ministers. Maggie offered to take on that task. We appreciate it very much!

Bingo Volunteer Alert ~ On Thursday evening, October 9, our Bonus Ball Jackpot will be $3,961.30.  A larger than usual player turnout is expected and could necessitate the opening of the downstairs cafeteria to accommodate the overflow. Obviously, additional workers would be needed to staff both floors. Bingo is the largest source of parish operating funds and an important form of stewardship. If you can spare a few hours this Thursday evening, please report to the bingo hall (upstairs at St. Charles Hall) by 7 p.m. and Fran Cahill will be happy to assist you in joining the team. You can also leave your name and contact information for Fran by clicking HERE, or call the parish office (833-0301) and Fran will contact you. Even if you can only give two hours on a Thursday or Saturday, volunteering on a scheduled basis can be extremely helpful. Please consider a gift of time to your parish family.

Diocesan Celebration of Milestone Wedding Anniversaries ~ Couples celebrating their fiftieth, sixtieth or seventieth wedding anniversaries during 2014 will be honored on Sunday, November 16, at 3:00 p.m. Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral followed by a reception at the Adam’s Mark Hotel.  Family members are invited.  If you have celebrated or will be celebrating one of these significant wedding anniversaries during 2014 and would like to participate in this event, please make your reservation by calling Sister Barbara (833-0301) by October 19. Thank you.

You Did It For Me ~ Recovery is moving ahead in the Philippines, almost a year after Super Typhoon Haiyan. Catholic Relief Services (“CRS”) has been working closely with church partners and communities to rebuild homes and livelihoods. As of September, 2208 homes have been completed and 4213 are under construction. CRS is also helping 17,000 families rebuild their homes, training and supplying carpenters with tools to build homes using durable, disaster-resistant materials.

A Vocation View ~ Dismiss all anxiety from your minds. Let us present our needs to God in the form of prayer and petitions full of gratitude. Let us pray for an increase in vocations to priesthood, diaconate and religious life. If God is calling you to a church vocation, call Father Walter Szczesny at 847-5535. You can also check out the “Priest of the Month” stories on our website:  www.buffalovocations.org.
